I got 4 out of 5. Got the size wrong - they were asking about the average, but I picked mine! It does enlarge as you grow older, which is why we elderly get up in the night.
Hmm. I get up at 3;30 every morning for a piss. Are you saying that this is age or prostrate related, or both? :?
could be drink related!

Indeed. Soft drink related though. When I say 'every night' I should actually point out that this occurs during the week, not at weekends. ;)

i go spells needing to get up in the night... usually turns out to be a bladder infection... wouldn't harm to get it checked out, Bruce... at our age, stuff starts to malfunction!

See, how do you go about arranging an ap with your GP at which she says "And what appears to be the problem?" to which you reply "Err, nowt" :?

To be honest, Bish, what I've realised is that the benefit to me personally of me having signed up to the blood donor programme is that once every six months I get to get my blood screened. It's like I've struck this deal with them.

Generally speaking as you age your prostate enlarges. This has nothing to do with cancer - just happens. As it enlarges it compresses the amount of space the bladder has to expand. Since the bladder has less expansion room it tells you it is full after four hours instead of eight. However, if you drink a lot before you go to bed (i.e. after 6.00 pm) you may also have to get up after four hours even though your prostate has not enlarged. So I cannot state with any certainty the cause in your case.

I don't think the deal with Blood Donation is that it is a free blood test!! (nor am i sure a blood test would be very good at picking up a urine infection!)

with the doc - just say you are having to go to the bog more than usual - s/he will take a urine sample and test it there and then - they have a fairly crude while-u-wait test for infection... they probably will dip-test it for blood-traces too - see if it's kidney stones or owt like that - then s/he'll send it off to a lab for more detailed testing... if you have an infection - prescribe antibiotics - job done...

Just get it checked mate, just do it.
Probs now't but if the quacks investigate they will revisit and ask more questions at some point this is to your advantage.

He or she will then invite you to hug your knees, snap some gloves on, cover them with lube and shove what feels like a cricket stump up your jacksie. Just to check.

And just to let those of you approaching 50 know that on your birthday, you'll now receive an appointment for a flexible sigmoidoscopy, aka a camera up the aris, to check for colorectal tumours and polyps.

Happy birthday to yoooooooooooou!

OK, I'll get it checked out. The blood test thing was just a general comment relating to getting my blood screened regularly, Bish, and not related to this. Apologies as I hadn't made that clear.

A former boss of mine had to go for a rectal examination. When I asked him the day after how he'd got on, his reply was (insert Geordie accent) "Well I'm glad I'm not a puff, like, if that's just a blerk's fecking finga".

I'm all for people getting things checked out at the doctors. But I'm not sure needing the loo during the night is particularly a reason to go.

Unless, it has suddenly started happening or gradually has gotten worse and/or is accompanied with other symptoms.

If it is accompanied with thirst and tiredness during the day for example, then go. Immediately.

I doubt there would be a rectal examination if a urine infection were suspected... don't worry!

:D y'know I did originally write "there's no Rs in prostrate" for comedy value but then changed it because it was grammatically dodgy!
