Nothing romantic here. Going to see Lucero at The Deaf Institute. Will be full of sweaty men with beards. I'm going to have a wash and a shave to stand out.
Great small venue though and I'm told they are excellent performers by my mate who saw them supporting Frank Turner. Don't know a lot of their stuff but this is a good one.

Singer Ben Nichols also did The Last Pale Light in the West, which became known as The Governor's Song in Season 4 to fans of The Walking Dead.

FT has just tweeted that they're playing London on Saturday, and that he's going.

Sat in a tent in a very wet and cold Pendle. I'm not going anywhere tonight but a little bit of me wishes I was going home

Can any of you Parisian veterans recommend me a fast track itinerary then? Were there from 11am till about 6pm. Preferably the non too touristy stuff but still get a glimpse of the main sights?? Cheers

Do it, you might get to stand next to him at a urinal. Very small venue last night, so if it's the same there he'll be easy to pick out. The support guy was good, similar style to Frank.

Lucero were outstanding though, and I'm sure you'll love them so get yourself down there. Brilliant live band.

Not tonight, but this afternoon, went to the matinee of Duet for One at the Octagon. An outstanding play, a very good production, acting of the highest standard.

If you have any interest in theatre, go and see... do not miss this...

Was it lit well ??

Well I could see it all... But obviously wish you'd been there to give me some guidance on the finer points...

Sorry dude, I missed this.

When are you going, and what sort of stuff are you interested in? Paris isn't a massive City, but all of the main sights are annoyingly spread out.

If you want to do artsy stuff, I'd suggest getting the metro from Gare du Nord to Arc de Triomphe (I think the stop is Charles de Gaulle Etoile) have a look round that (though I think it was quite dear to go up inside it) then walk down the Champs Elysee where she can look in all the eye-wateringly expensive couture shops. Walking down towards Concorde on your right is Pont D'Alexandre bridge which IMO is the most beautiful place in the city. The panorama is fab, Eiffel Tower one way, Concorde one way, Les Invalides one way the Grand Palais one way. It's best at night though so maybe not worth it in the day. Walk down to Concorde through the Jardin des Tuileries (Tulip Gardens) up to the Louvre. Champs Elysee looks ace looking down to the Arc de Triomphe on the horizon. Then you can potter around the Louvre and/or nearby Musee D'Orsay. I prefer D'Orsay, as the Louvre has famous stuff like the Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo and Liberty Leading the People, but it's massive, easy and easy to get lost in. D'Orsay had a Van Gogh exhibition when I was there where was pretty good. They're about a tenner each, each, to get into IIRC (it was free for 25s and under so I didn't pay). If you're not arsed about the art, then maybe do the Champs Elysee walk down to the Louvre anyway.

If it's a view you want, then go up to Sacre Coeur. Church up on a hill in the north looking out over the city.

If it's a nice day, a walk along the Seine, particularly around Notre Damme would be good, or a river cruise, though they're quite touristy.

I wouldn't bother going up the Eiffel Tower. I never have done, coz the queue is always massive, and it takes ages as you have to wait around half way up if it's busy. There's a park right underneath it though which is good to sit in if it's sunny. Picnic there is noce, though they're really arsey about you drinking in the park. Also, that bridge from Inception that looks like it goes on for ever is 2 minutes away if you're into that sort of thing.

One place I'd defo recommend if you want 'proper' Paris is here: http://www.yelp.co.uk/biz/chez-georges-paris-3" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Proper Paris wine bar, and was pretty cheap when I was there (though it's got pretty 'famous' now I think, it even appeared in The Week magazine). Was 2 euros for a glass of wine but dunno now.

cheers. were there on Thursday. yes i had almost decided on heading to AdT first then walking down the Champs Elysee. we'll probably go up it, apparently its a better view of Paris anyway as the Eiffel is in shot? a bit like being up the Empire States, you cant see the main focal point becasue you're stood on it? and also the Eiffel is already sold out to online bookings. then i thought about a boat trip up to Notre Damme which would be enough 'sight seeing' for me. From there i just wanna wander, eat and drink. A few people have reccommended Le Marais? really looking forward to it!! she doesnt know yet either!

The key to the Eiffel Tower is to get there early before the queues.

If you are there, you might as well as do it.

We did and it was a life changing moment!

We chose to walk up the Eiffel Tower as there was no queue. We were so glad that we did, as the view changes all the time and I just don't think that we would have had the same experience taking the lift. Well worth the effort.
