Tonight's Football

There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

These here Liverpool fans banging on about Chelsea playing "anti-football" are doing my tits in.

Yes Chelsea went to stifle, but what do they want? Every team to go and open up against Suarez, Coutinho and Sterling? Yeah.

Chelsea for all the "park the bus" jibes the Liverpool fans seem intent on bleating today, actually scored twice and forced the best save of the game out of Mignolet. And Kalas missed a sitter in the first half.

So on balance, Chelsea not only stifled Liverpool, but had clearly the best chances of the game. I rather think all the park the bus stuff is merely a cover up for the obvious lack of anything other than a Plan A that Liverpool possess being exposed yesterday. Sure if you try and play them in a pacy open game then they have players to destroy you. But less so when you defend properly and block off the middle of the pitch.

It is like when Allardyce was here and everyone moaned about coming to Bolton. What did they want? Us to roll over and lose (well yes but whatever).

There is more than one way to skin a cat and I think that all this purist nonsense is reminding me of the rubbish Souness etc came out with years back.

I'm not one of those that wanks on about good football. I found Chelsea's efforts yesterday every bit as compelling as watching Barcelona at their best. Football isn't about watching team A pass team B to death all the time.

I rather think, Arsenal and Liverpool fans have forgotten that in their pursuit of winning the "most worthy" trophy.

And Liverpool won European cups under Benitez playing in a very negative, dour and game spoiling way/

Short memories methinks.

Liverpool's problem is a shit defence for title contenders. Stifle the attack and they'll give you a chance or two. Can't blame anyone for exploiting something as obvious as that. Liverpool just feeling embarrassed now, and rightly so after all the premature crowing.

its all good and well setting a team up to defend, when they win, very good but nobody gets over excited about it. if they lose though its like a damp squib.

Someone should have asked Mourhino about Big Sam's 19th Century football. He's been copying Sam for years, like Sam said 10 years ago with his SuperBolton comments!
+1 would rather they won it on GD though, would get everybody to stop talking about Europe's greatest strike force.

Maybe so but I thought Bournemouth away, saturday and Leeds away were brilliant examples of how you can set up very defensively and come away with a smashing result (in 2 of those cases thrashing). I think those 3 results were nothing short of astonishing given the line ups and roved you can play very defensively and still overrun the opposition.

Real all over Bayern tonight. Three up (four on average) at half time. Two cracking headers from Sergio Ramos and a Bale supplying Ronaldo third. Bit of spice thrown in and Alonso's ruled himself out of the final with a really daft non-tackle. Great game so far.

I suggest Ancelotti takes Ramos off at half time before it's two players out of the final.

Silly non-tackle by Alonso indeed (Did you know he's Mikel's brother? ;) ), but worthy of a yellow? Looked to me as though when he went to ground he went to pull out of the whole thing.

Fishing for the pedants award, wouldn't it be 2-0 on average (assuming the second half was goalless), but 4-0 on aggregate? :D

No, it wasn't a yellow for me, that's why it was so daft. It wasn't needed, was somewhat half-hearted (as you said), achieved nothing and took him out of the final. Crazy. I was willing Real to get Ramos off before they did. Man of the match for me, hard as nails, skilled player and 100% committed every game. Modric had a blinder and, in fairness, Roben played his bollox off for Bayern. Only ever one team going to the final tonight.

Three set-piece goals - you know what you're going to get with Real Madrid. Just like watching Bolton.

Hard game tonight for Chelsea. If AM score first, I can see Chelsea going out.
