That's sad. Quite like the man as an actor. Most of my generation have now gone to sit around the great council fire up there. R.I.P.

Yep, great, quirky actor in his time. I liked him a lot. RIP

Thankfully seems to have been mercifully quick after his diagnosis (or the announcement, at least) of Alzheimer's. Watching my mother slide very slowly into this is painful, speed is a blessing. I think I'm going to step in front of a truck driven by someone I don't like .... not yet-a-while though so don't get over-excited.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Parkinson's apparently. A whole different kettle of fish, far more liveable with, not that he has, but you know what I mean.

I read it was a bit of both. But yes, more manageable, depending on severity.

Tennis player Elena Baltacha aged 30 of liver cancer, terribly sad. I knew she had a liver disease, didn't realise how serious it was. RIP.

Oh, that's a real shame. Genuinely talented artist (if a little weird on the subject matter). Liked his stuff a lot.

Me too, I've got a book of his stuff. Obviously a lot of Alien based work, but he did album covers too... like this Emerson Lake and Palmer

If I recall a lot of his work pre-dated the Alien film but Ridley Scott was a fan and got him to design the monster.

Sorta kinda, Giger had designed a pre-Alien alien before he was commissioned as you say by Scott who was a fan.
Scott had a kind of idea how he wanted the alien to look which eventually was the other alien (the enormous dead one welded into the spaceship chair), but Giger persuaded him (Scott) that his (Giger's) other alien was a better model for the killer. Between them they came up with the jaw within the jaw concept and ta da, Alien was born.

^ Didn't know him, obviously, but he just managed to bring me to the verge of tears watching him on the news. Such a shame and as you say, remarkable.

So sad. He achieved what he set out to do, though. Most of us never will because there's always tomorrow.
