Re: The athletics/running thread
I've got a race tomorrow, and I've done some serious anti-training for the last three weeks. I've been riding a horse and can hardly walk properly anymore, never mind run. And my body doesn't know what time zone it's in right now. Ha reckon I might finally fail and come last.

Good luck. I imagine the 'S' bit is a slight relief! Cheers. Certainly is/was; but having said that it isn't the length that hurt it's the 340m of ascent!LeverEnd wrote:Good luck. I imagine the 'S' bit is a slight relief! Anyway, I did it and achieved my three objectives, which in descending order of priority were: don't die during the race, finish the race, don't come last.

No warm up, no warm down (excepting a pint afterwards), and anti-training beforehand.Prufrock wrote:Yeah, but did you warm up?

I've just looked it up on the FRA site and it's 1,115 ft of ascent - no wonder it felt brutal. Whereas its description is Hard but Beautiful, which is a good summary.

Well done Spotty! (I still say you would have finished further up the field if you'd had a good warm up beforehand
)

Still awaiting the race results, but I'll tell you what, if I came as low as next to last (I defo know there was at least one bloke behind me because I overtook him on the final downhill section), then next time I'll warm up.Harry Genshaw wrote:Well done Spotty! Phew! the results are in, six others lagging behind me, so I don't have to stick with rash promisesLost Leopard Spot wrote:Still awaiting the race results, but I'll tell you what, if I came as low as next to last (I defo know there was at least one bloke behind me because I overtook him on the final downhill section), then next time I'll warm up.Harry Genshaw wrote:Well done Spotty! Good stuff, really need to do a fell race this summer once I'm convinced my hip/back isn't made of glass. Been competing 30 years and never done one. I ran up to the Pigeon Tower the other day and down and got away with it.Lost Leopard Spot wrote:Phew! the results are in, six others lagging behind me, so I don't have to stick with rash promisesLost Leopard Spot wrote:Still awaiting the race results, but I'll tell you what, if I came as low as next to last (I defo know there was at least one bloke behind me because I overtook him on the final downhill section), then next time I'll warm up.Harry Genshaw wrote:Well done Spotty! One of my best mates runs for Pudsey and Bramley and has been trying for years to get me to a Dales one. I fancy one of the traditional ones as part of a fair/festival.

Re: The athletics/running thread
I reckon you should just do one at least. In my opinion, if you enjoy running you'll benefit, either because it'll be a pleasant revelation and you take it up, or it'll be an unpleasant revelation and you'll appreciate the flat stuff even more. Go on, be a devil!LeverEnd wrote:Good stuff, really need to do a fell race this summer once I'm convinced my hip/back isn't made of glass. Been competing 30 years and never done one. You stick your bike in it and it becomes a posh cycling machine in a gym. They're good.thebish wrote:what's that?Gary the Enfield wrote:Turbo trainer for my birthday. So happy I may put it in the happy thread too.

You don't get that at parkrun.
