Thirded. Watched the 1st episode last night. Great stuff. Will defo be tuning into ep2William the White wrote:Yeah, we caught it, and rated it. Slightly schematic, I thought, and the Jewish thread was hard to swallow, but a promising start.clapton is god wrote:^ I haven't watched any of that yet, but have it all recorded. May or may not bother. On a similar theme though I happened to catch the last hour of Generation War: on BBC2 on Saturday evening. This is the war as told by a German company, something of a turning point in German TV apparently, an introspective by the current generation into that generation, and is in subtitles. It deals with the euphoria of the German advance into Russia and almost on to Moscow following the progress of five friends, one of them a Jew in Berlin and another a nurse attached to a field hospital. Powerful and emotive stuff with the early days of the Jewish question and the Ukraine 'special units' central to the story. The first ep available on iPlayer and second on next Saturday evening. Well worth catching!

Re: What are you watching tonight?
Tonight, rather weirdly, was Genghis Khan night on BBC 4. A fictionalised account of his early years, where he seemed to be a loving husband motivated in his murders by the need to rescue his wife from multiple kidnaps. So, loving husband, driven to massacre by mistreatment of spouse. Film ends as he unites mongol tribes and prepares to conquer the world (of which, to give him credit, he almost got the most part of the land surface, beating the greeks and romans easily).
Folowed by documentary wherein it is revealed that faithful husband had a happy time with conquered female prisoners, to the point, it was claimed, that one in 200 people on the planet have some of Genghis Khan's genes.
Nigel Farage wishes he has, but only managed Tommy Trinder's.

Re: What are you watching tonight?
I mentioned last week 'discovering' the series 'Orphan Black' (which I, interestingly named 'Black Orphan') and how good it seemed. It is indeed and I have now caught up wuth all 10 of series 1. Seeues 2 began this week on BBC3. Again well filmed and thrilling. However it shows all the hallmarks of a successful American series in that it's got no intention of focusing on a conclusion, new baddies and new levels of baddiness being introduced largely to keep the franchuse going. I guess it will continue till the steam has completely gone from it and it'll eventually become another dead horse they finally tire of flogging.
Such a sgame they do that. I'll carry on for now coz Series 2 in this formula normally works well but you just know what's coming.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Ilo Ilo at the corner House yesterday. A film about a Filipino maid going to work for a family in Singapore just as the financial crisis hits. Some great acting but ultimately the story just didn't go anywhere. 6/10

Didn't fare much better on the 2nd days viewing at the corner House. Apologies to those of you on here who are big fans of Georgian cinema, but their latest offering 'In bloom' just didn't do it for me. Well acted story of 2 teenage girls coming of age at a time of national crisis but my god what a bleak existence and a bleak film to go with it.

On a lighter note, Jack's back in 24! Recorded it last night as they did the 1am showing to coincide with the US premiere. Looking forward to it, won't be as good as the brilliant best series, but I'm glad it's back.

I saw an advert the other day but didn't realise it was on already. Amazing. That's me sorted for the next 24 weeks!

Prison Break is appalling. the most hideous programme to come out of the US until Arrow.thebish wrote:i got to about a third of the way through the last season and then it got pulled from netflix and transferred over to Amazon Prime (or whatever it's called)Prufrock wrote:That rings a bell, but that's rubbish! Been ill past few days so decided to catch up on the tv that i've recorded and not got round to watching. One of which was "Mob City" which is by Frank Darabont ( walking dead/the mist). Thought it was really good but then realised it was only 6 episodes that had recorded, so I googled it and found only 6 were made before they Feckin cancelled it. Im not best pleased, stupid feckin yanks!!!!
