Indeed. I'd say exactly the same of Spearing, whose free kicks in a game have been bloody awful.Enoch wrote:My take on that. To be given the opportunity, he must have shown at Euxton that he has the requisite skill. Maybe he has it all in spades but is struggling to reproduce on match days.Bruce Rioja wrote:See, I'm almost the opposite. I think that he thinks that he has more ability than he actually has. I'm yet to see him produce anything, though I don't doubt his effort. Are his set pieces good? He took two direct free kicks in the first half yesterday that I thought summed up my opinion of him perfectly - all good intent but piss poor delivery. Please don't get me wrong, as I said earlier, I'm willing the lad to start producing, but I'm yet to see anything worthwhile from him.
He wouldn't be the first.

Totally agree with the comments on Kellett, he must receive and have got praise for his small cameo yesterday. If he can replicate that then we may have a bench player than can actually change the face of a game.Bruce Rioja wrote:Hard to tell indeed. I love to see a player run with the ball, and run at defenders especially. However, we must remember that Brum had flung everything forward when he made those breaks yesterday. It'd also have been interesting had he gone for the gap between the defenders on both occasions, but had he done so and cocked it up with players to either side in 3 v 2's then he'd have received flack from some quarters, no doubt. I hope that he's encouraged to run at defenders. Whether he will be or not, I think only time will tell. I'm sure he could be useful off of the bench to do just that, definitely.BWFC_Insane wrote:I think we are both unconvinced and hoping rather than expecting.Bruce Rioja wrote:See, I'm almost the opposite. Hall has a lot of ability. A lot. I question what he's got between his ears though.
Also I get the impression, rightly or wrongly that he is a bit of a big head and thinks he's made it.
He needs to work on the defensive aspect of his game as he offers his full back nowt. And end product.
I've not totally given up on him yet, because his set pieces are good, and he clearly has the talent. It's the attitude I'd like to see improved.
What did you make of young Kellet's brief appearance? Hard to tell I know but he could be useful off the bench for me.....
As for Hall, I don't think he's a winger, maybe should think about the role that Beckford players in that 'crooked diamond' formation with a player like The Juke providing the ammo?
Pfffft.
Re: Zulu Down - Brum match thread
I'm sure. Probably not at the expense of players signed by the same manager a year ago that he's now got to fork out £15-20k a week for for the next two years though.BWFC_Insane wrote:What's the point? I'd wager the point is that Eddie wants and quite likely demands returns from our academy and that bringing younger players into the first team and seeing a return on that investment both in terms of contributions and fees is probably a major part of the clubs remit over the next few years.Tombwfc wrote:I think we could probably get away with playing Threlkeld there next season, but what's the point? We've just given out big contracts to two full-backs. Baptiste has had a shocker of a season, but he must have done something to attain the reputation he had prior to us signing him. No-one is going to buy him either, so it's try again or banish him to the Tyrone Mears club. Tierney likewise wasn't great by any stretch but he's back from injury and will go back into the team.
I'll save picking apart meaningless games we were shit in for pre-season, but my word Trotter and Beckford were poor. Trotter looks scared shitless to try anything that isn't a five yard square ball. Maybe it's playing at home.
That's the point, bringing our kids through has become an imperative rather than a nice to have.
Re: Zulu Down - Brum match thread
True, but we're hardly likely to be playing the same RB 46 times next year so if we can, say, pay a kid's wages rather than Hutton's then hurray.

Yes, about three dozen of us. They took that long to come back out that people simply started drifting out.Andy Waller wrote:Did anyone stop for the "Lap of Crap"?

Yep but only because the bus home was setting off 30 minutes late because of this ridiculous ritual.Andy Waller wrote:Did anyone stop for the "Lap of Crap"?
I stood with my arms folded looking sternly at them as I was in no mood to applaud. They sort of quickly went round the middle of the pitch, at least some of the younger members of the team had the decency to look embarrassed!!
Re: Zulu Down - Brum match thread
I stayed til they passed where I was sitting. Fortunately that was near the start of the lap. There were a few muted booz at the final whistle, but thankfully they buggered off. The empty stands said a lot about the fans' appreciation of this season's efforts. I walked through where the Brum coaches were parked, they were having a great time. I envied them their moment, if not their season.Andy Waller wrote:Did anyone stop for the "Lap of Crap"?

Re: Zulu Down - Brum match thread
There were a couple of groups of players, then Spearing, with Beckford quite a long way behind with child at the end. I guess with his style of play it's fitting that he should be the last one round.
The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.
Re: Zulu Down - Brum match thread
100%. Threlkeld has shown that there is no need for us to replace Mears or Hutton, and so that already is a decent chunk of cash to use elsewhere.Prufrock wrote:True, but we're hardly likely to be playing the same RB 46 times next year so if we can, say, pay a kid's wages rather than Hutton's then hurray.

I mentioned Riley somewhere. He was all the rage a while ago. If he's fit, then we have some good competition at full back then?

Our new Joey O'Brien. We daren't release him as he'll go on to make good. But how many games has he actually played .... 3 in 4 seasons.Vertigo wrote:I mentioned Riley somewhere. He was all the rage a while ago. If he's fit, then we have some good competition at full back then?

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: Zulu Down - Brum match thread
Does that make Holden the new Quinton Fortune or Sean Davis?
Pfffft.
Re: Zulu Down - Brum match thread
Yes but Holden had been out for even longer than both of those.
The above post is complete bollox/garbage/nonsense, please point this out to me at any and every occasion possible.
Re: Zulu Down - Brum match thread
I can remember Holden doing good things, the other two I cannot.
Re: Zulu Down - Brum match thread
Never conceded a goal with Quinton on the pitch!

Wasn't Sean Davis injured for the three seasons he was contracted to us? He played 3 games from 09-12

Re: Zulu Down - Brum match thread
I took a Blues mate and he just went absolutely batshit mental at the equaliser, it was hilarious. Steward suggested it was time to go but most folk around just shook his hand and said they deserved it.
Amusing to see how Beckford gets zero sympathy for his whinging these days. At Everton where they scream everything as a foul he might have got away with his constant weakness and appealing, but not at Bolton, lad.
