And also the white shorts. We had the most successful spell in recent years wearing white shorts. They made us look like Real Madrid. Look what happened when we ditched them - it was all Megson and Gregor Raziak. And ping-pong.

And before Allardyce, we had white shorts in the 70s. Nat Lofthouse introduced them when he was manager. And no one is going to say Lofty was wrong, are they?

Ah, but when Lofty was playing, he didn't have any choice in what kit to wear, did he? Whereas, when he was manager, he did. And he chose to make the team wear white shorts (I'm assuming it was his decision, as I'm fairly sure it was Jimmy Armfield's decision to revert to navy blue when he took over, and it was definitely Allardyce's decision to wear white shorts when he was in charge, so it seems to be the managers that pick these things)

Plus, I don't think anyone can deny that our most recent successful spell came wearing white shorts. Swapped them back to navy in 2008 and it's been downhill ever since....

I don't think we were successful BECAUSE we had white shorts. That was a coincidence. It was the players in the white shorts that were more important.

If you really want a stronger one, how about budgies? There are budgies in the Arndale Centre, so they must have a strong connection (I am informed that there are no longer budgies in the Arndale Centre. However, since I haven't lived anywhere near Bolton for around 20 years, this is less important than the fact that there used to be budgies in the Arndale, and I still think there are. They are there in spirit). A budgie on the shirt would be good. And the team could run out to "Crash Course In Brain Surgery".

Or lions. Lions are fierce, indomitable and would, no doubt, be approved by Councillor Morgan. And there are lions on the townhall steps (so there's your connection) - they observe all the arse-showing that occurs. What could be more appropriate than lions?
