Yet more good news - we may be signing Liam Feeney.
http://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/sport/wa ... _/?ref=mac" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I was hugely impressed with him on the few occasions that I saw him. I remember thinking - "A speed merchant with not much pace. How can such a thing be?"
Like a slow Mickey Brown.
Hooray. Now we can continue to get rid of players who can trap and kick a football in exchange for ones with The Right Attitude, who Put A Decent Shift In.
After all, look at the evidence. Whenever Championship sides meet Premier League sides in the FA Cup, the Championship sides inevitably win. In every single case. This is because The Premier League Teams Cannot Cope With The Style Of Play Of The Championship.
I'm looking forward to next season more than I can possibly say.

Aye, pretty obvious where the priorities lie now! I really hope Mavies stays, and Pratley goes, but not too hopeful.bobo the clown wrote:BEN reports that a deal for Liam Feeney is more or less completed and the Devite one IS completed.
Looks like he's achieving his goal of having most of his transfers completed early.
I'm anticipating Mavies & Medo and maybe Lee may exit and another couple yet to arrive.
Still need the Juke & A N Other up front unless he has faith in the youths but this current squad isn't too shabby and is certainly HIS so let's see if he can turn them into a team.
GK ... Bogdan, Lonergan
FB ... Baptiste, Tierney, Threlkeld
CH .... Wheater, Dervite, Ream, Mills
Rather over-loaded midfield ... Spearing, Medo, Vela, Trotter, Danns, Davies M, Pratley
Wingers ... Hall, Lee, Feeney
Forward ... Beckford
Promising Youth ... Iliev, Clough, Lester, Kellett, White, Youngs
Permacrocks ... Riley, Holden
Eaves, Odelusi, Davies C & Andrews I am assuming will exit.

Re: Abdoulaye's going t'Souk transfer thread
Highly unlikely that anyone will pay for Mark Davies till he's proven fitness over an extended period. They might low ball but I doubt the sort of money we'd want would be seen.
Don't get why people think Medo would go.
Am sure they'd like to shift Pratley.

I like Feeney's direct play but agree with others that he's not really good enough.
Re: Abdoulaye's going t'Souk transfer thread
Aye but that not playing at the end of the season just sounded 'off'. Might be nothing, but I lurch from blind optimism to wild pessimism.BWFC_Insane wrote:Highly unlikely that anyone will pay for Mark Davies till he's proven fitness over an extended period. Anyone got a reckon on what pratley is on, and our chances of getting rid?
Yeah can't see Medo being sold unless he goes looking for an out.

Re: Abdoulaye's going t'Souk transfer thread
Davies had a recurring groin injury. I've heard on the grapevine that he didn't look after himself very well whilst out injured and the medical staff feel that contributed to his subsequent problems.Prufrock wrote:Aye but that not playing at the end of the season just sounded 'off'. Just my take on it, for these reasons ;BWFC_Insane wrote:Don't get why people think Medo would go.
I think Medo with Spearing proved to be two players fighting for the same space. It really wasn't too successful and we lost a link-up opportunity. Personally I think he could do a good job a little further forward but we have Danns doing that ... & Pratley if fit and DF has shown that he doesn't see him playing there.
Medo was dropped for the final 6 or so games to let Trotter play there. DF seemed highly satisfied with that, even if I didn't. I'm fckg sure Medo wasn't. Oddly, Freedman's view wins.
I suspect Medo will be dissatisfied to sit too long on the bench. He is however under contract, I'm assuming quite well paid, is a good player and could attract interest (& us a fee). DF has other options in that Vela and Ream could play deep.
No-one will come in for Pratley, whereas I think someone will for Medo.
For those reasons I suspect we may lose him.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

well - here's a reason to be cheerful - it's bound to cheer SmokinFrazier up...

looks like we'll have both of them - job done!SmokinFrazier wrote:Feeney looks like a good player. I was impressed with his pace, crossing and how direct he was. Beckford is decent in the air, so those two alone should create plenty of chances for us.

Re: Abdoulaye's going t'Souk transfer thread
If LCY has a half decent World Cup he'll be off, and good luck to him.
That would leave 9 players for 5 midfield positions. Mavies, Pratley and Vela are in that 9. So, senior midfield players who Dougie likes and are fairly injury-free thus far might only be 6 players for 5 positions.

Re: Abdoulaye's going t'Souk transfer thread
Given a choice, I'm sure DF would rather offload Pratley than Medo. But we don't have a choice.
Bobo, your overloaded midfield is only overloaded if DF decides he wants to play both Trotter and Danns there, as opposed to further forward (in the 3 of the 4-2-3-1). I suspect their positional placement will depend on opponents, gameplan, home/away, etc. Which is probably as it should be.

If we go to the shove as many central-midfielders as possible approach it's fine.
Wingers are so passé.

Medo had a serious gastric virus as far as I know.bobo the clown wrote:Just my take on it, for these reasons ;BWFC_Insane wrote:Don't get why people think Medo would go.

Re: Abdoulaye's going t'Souk transfer thread
I rated Feeney, he destroyed Blackpool almost single handedly whilst short of match time, contributed to Dann's goal against Brum away and played well in the other two matches he featured in. Not much more he could have done in the short space of time he was here. He's free and his wages will probably be less than half of Eagles'.

Indeed. And as I further recall he received a hearty welcome from the home fans when he came back playing for Millwall.thebish wrote:Bijou Bob wrote:I rated Feeney, he destroyed Blackpool almost single handedly whilst short of match time, contributed to Dann's goal against Brum away and played well in the other two matches he featured in. Certainly I did. Whether we still need him and whether he can do what he did consistently remains to be seen. Hopefully he can.

Re: Abdoulaye's going t'Souk transfer thread
Anyone know how he did at Blackburn?
All I can find is this from the Lancashire Telegraph:
"Feeney was restricted to just one start – the 1-1 home draw with champions Leicester – and five substitute appearances.
But Bowyer was impressed by Feeney’s application and performances in training.
And the Ewood boss admits he would have given the former Bournemouth winger more of a run had it not been for Craig Conway’s continued outstanding form and Josh King’s end-of-season resurgence.
Feeney will be a free agent once his contract with Millwall expires next month and Bowyer could be interested in signing him on a free transfer.
“Liam came to us when we needed some pace and he’s made one or two telling contributions,” said Bowyer."
