so... basically then an almond is a peach stone. 8)

I didn't know this so looked it up - I am now more confused.
The current official Hawaiian alphabet consists of 18 letters: 5 normal vowels: Aa, Ee, Ii, Oo, Uu; 5 vowels with macrons: Āā, Ēē, Īī, Ōō, Ūū; 8 consonants: Hh, Kk, Ll, Mm, Nn, Pp, Ww, ʻokina
What kind of consonant is 'okina, and why do the rest appear to have a stutter?

The rest seems pretty self-explanatory in that it has one upper and one lower case.

Feck knows that 'okina is! Wiki says it's unicameral (so same in both cases hence only once) and denotes a glottal stop.

So, that'll be 5 vowels, though each may spoken in two ways, and 7 vowels, along with a glottal. So that's 12 then ???

Step back up Mr Enfield, your public awaits you.

Well that be be a question of semantic linguistics that my brain can't cope with right now!

What is a letter? Is é a different letter to e? I would say no, and so say 12, but I'm not really sure why!
