Where are you going tonight?

Re: Where are you going tonight?

as part of my weekend of birthday celebrations we went to see Cape Wrath - a one man show performed on this minibus (parked up outside Plymouth Theatre) with a restricted audience of 14 (as many as you can fit on the minibus!) It was a fab experience, if hard to describe... the official site gives a flavour...
it was funny and moving - and the kind of thing I don't expect I will come across again! highly recommended if it comes your way!!

Yesterday I had a meeting in Beaconsfield, home of Disraeli though I believe he's passed away now. Beautiful place, rather blighted by it's sheer business. I then had and aimless drive around Bucks & Berks ... just to reconvince myself that this truly is God's country. Then came to a lovelt ^ excellent value B&B in Woodstock having witnessed the outrageous prices of Oxford hotels ... no regrets at the choice.
Met up with a chum of 30 years standing, a few scoops and a meal and now in the B&B garden having full English before popping into Bleneim for the first time in 20 years.
Life can be good.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Should've popped into the office for a brew. I'm only down the road in Elstree.

Out on a freebie dinner tonight at some posh steakhouse. So, do I take the piss and got for the 80 quid wagyu, or make do with a 30 quid sirloin?

Depends if you give a shit I guess. My normal advice would be to have what you would if buying yourself. Also, follow the lead set by others .... but hey.
Maybe ask for pork while you're at it !!

They do some pork I think
I'm sure I can have whatever I want as long as I don't start spending thousands on champagne or anything. Just can't get my head around paying 80 quid for a steak. I've had some great steaks in my time, but nothing I'd even think of paying that much for.

I definitely wait until a precedent is set, usually by someone more senior.bobo the clown wrote:Depends if you give a shit I guess. My normal advice would be to have what you would if buying yourself. Also, follow the lead set by others .... but hey.

I would always have the cheaper one, no matter what everyone else did, because my neurotic self-shaming paranoid mind would convince myself either that it was a test, or that maybe they'd all agreed in advance they'd have the expensive thing but pay some, or any other number of clearly not true madnesses, and so that when I ordered the dear thing there'd be gasps or stunned silence. Much better to save everyone the potential embarrassment and have the cheap one. Even if I don't like it.
I don't think I'm alone on this btw. I don't think anything else could explain the popularity of prawn cocktail for example.

I always find in a business situation that middle of the road price wise is a winner. No one wants to look cheap. Tonight it is sort of business, but not. I do know one of the blokes there will order the biggest steak, though not necessarily the most expensive! That used to be my tactic in my younger days, but these days it would involve elasticated waists and I'm not ready for them yet

I quite like Prawn Cocktails.

We could hold meetings at a local club and not eat the complimentary food provided in case it was meant for another group and given to us in error.Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:Great. You can form a support group togetherPrufrock wrote:Ha, I think there are more of us than you'd think!

Re: Where are you going tonight?
Ended up doing one of those sharing steaks. A big t-bone. Nice enough, but nothing better than I do at home and certainly not worth the 90 odd quid it cost. Supposed to be one of the best steakhouses in Dubai and it was distinctly average. Wont be going back.

Tonight, seeing as Not Mrs Bob is off on a works 'do', I'm bobbing off down the local to watch Ska Face, an 8 piece Ska band. Third time I'll have seen them and well recommended.............if you like that sort of thing.
