Re: The athletics/running thread
I can see why it puts you off, no matter how careful you are you're only one idiot away from a crash. I'm thinking of cycling to work, although it's only a few miles from Horwich to Westhoughton! Keep talking about swimming too but not actually doing it.

Swimming to work might be a bit tougher.LeverEnd wrote:I can see why it puts you off, no matter how careful you are you're only one idiot away from a crash. Would be pretty cool if you could pull it off though. Somewhere somebody does that.KeyserSoze wrote:Swimming to work might be a bit tougher.LeverEnd wrote:I can see why it puts you off, no matter how careful you are you're only one idiot away from a crash. Re: The athletics/running thread
Reminded me of a mate who decided to cycle home drunk from Birmingham CC along the canal towpath to the uni. Forgot in the dark that the canal was curved at one point and went over the edge! I've done a lot of towpath running round both Birmingham and Moses gate but so far managed to avoid a dip, couple of near misses though.

Still better than a month ago, thanks for asking. Got the Christleton 5k on fri eve, very flat and fast so looking for sub 17 in that.Gooner Girl wrote:Cold has cleared, off out for a short, gentle jog with a friend in a bit. Hope it's cooled down somewhat, it's been boiling here today. Swam outside this afternoon, weather a bit different from GtE's swim Tuesday!
Lever End, how was park run yesterday?
Just done 53 mins round Rivington reservoirs, love running on nights like this, fancied a dip in one of the ressies though.
Did you get out for an FA Cup victory run?![]()
Was the fast lad who always beats you away this week then? Did you blow your chance to win it?!
Yeah, but don't forget the last time she did it she was a lot younger.

I'm going to come to Enfield and drive alongside you calling out off-putting stuff next time you go cycling!

Sorry, no. Not scared. Just got an image of you driving your school bus sat on a big cushion so you can see over the dashboard.

Ah, I see. Did they finally agree to glue those blocks of wood on the pedals?

Re: The athletics/running thread
Back on form tonight. 1500 metre open water swim followed by a 2k sprint. My middle 2 laps 500m was 1 minute quicker than last week. All building nicely to my Olympic race on Sunday.
Practised mass start tonight. Only 8 of us but it gets feisty when you're fighting for clear water. They call it the 'washing machine'. Great fun.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Managed 8x800m on the track tonight with some sprints at the end. First proper track session for 2 years, legs were wrecked. Cold bath helped even if I did look like a post op transsexual when I got out.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Tonight I'm going out on a Hash for only the second time.
The Hash House Harriers is a 'drinking club with a running problem'
http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j& ... 9260,d.d2k" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
You start and finish in a pub and follow a Hare and Hounds type course around parks with blind runs and loops aplenty (the idea being that the faster runners are thrown back to where the slower runners catch up. One of the members of my club runs the Enfield Has and it's their 15th Anniversary run tonight.
So I'm off for a beer, a run, a beer and some cake. On On!
