Aswad and UB40 are playing at the paignton party-on-the-beach next month some time... I didn't realise they were still going!!Bijou Bob wrote:Tonight, seeing as Not Mrs Bob is off on a works 'do', I'm bobbing off down the local to watch Ska Face, an 8 piece Ska band. Third time I'll have seen them and well recommended.............if you like that sort of thing.

Love UB40
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Sorry.
I can just about, at a pinch, listen to Rat in mi kitchen.
The only reason UB40 have sold 120m records, is because half the band members bought one each.

Meanwhile I've discovered a huge quantity of various artist blues stuff, so I should be okay for a month or two.

Dog and Partridge, Dogstock, 3 days of beer and local bands. Always a great atmosphere. Went last night and will be there for 3 today after a munch at The Yew Tree with the Old Dear.

Octagon - Brassed off. No, not me, thats the name of the play. I think they have a full brass band in there. Should be a very noisy evening but great fun!

for me it kinda depends on the event/venue/surroundings.Bruce Rioja wrote:Worthy4England wrote:Sorry.

I wouldn't listen to a CD of UB40 in the car or in my house. but - by the sea - outdoors - with beer and a sunny, warm late afternoon/evening - it's ace. I think different music suits different occasions..
they must be cracking on a bit as i though they were quite old when i saw them when i was at Warwick Uni over 30yrs ago...

Re: Where are you going tonight?
They're using three brass bands (including Wingates) on a rota system. I'm guessing that Tango's link is to 'Orange Juice' which forms an integral part of the film and therefore the play. Going to try and get there one evening this week.clapton is god wrote:Bloody hell, Tango - so do I!TANGODANCER wrote:Sounds magnificent. Re: Where are you going tonight?
Well, on Friday I went to an admirable AmDram "Complete Works of Shakespeare". Really very good, then, last night Shaw's "Arms and the Man" at Theatre Clwyd. However good a good AmDram is a professional production stands out amazingly well. Ridiculous storyline as it was the production was stunning and the set, as ever there, amazing.

Re: Where are you going tonight?
I've been to the Octagon maybe 50 times now, been a season ticket holder for six of the last seven years. I don't ever remember enjoying an evening there as much as this one. We got Orange Juice and Floral dance and much more besides and it was every bit as spine tingly good as the clip from the film, more so being live music. Great cast, great band that filled the place with music, great set, bags of humour with lots of laugh out loud moments and lots that will bring you close to tears too. Get yourself a ticket and go.Bruce Rioja wrote:They're using three brass bands (including Wingates) on a rota system.
