We had to make do with shit corn flakes. The only thing that we could do with the box was to cut a square out of one side and then take it in turns to plonk it over our heads and pretend that we were on telly.

Tomorrow night, before Chuck Ragan at the Garage, am off to Cafe La Divinia on Upper Street, recommended I think by GM. Looking forward to it.

Going to be down in London the weekend after next with Mrs BP, the s-i-l and b-i-l. We're staying at Liverpool Street (not in the station) and they fancy Brick Lane for a curry. Does anyone have any recco's for a curry house, or any other type of restaurant over that way?

Can't remember the name of the curry house I used to go to there. There is a bar (one of them trendy ones) along there, that ha a large outdoor area. Nothing great about the place apart from they always used to have scantily clad women offering you shots of tequila.Burnden Paddock wrote:Going to be down in London the weekend after next with Mrs BP, the s-i-l and b-i-l. If you end up further west, then I highly recommend Navarros on Charlotte St. It's not far from Oxford St (Centre Point end). Really good tapas, house wine is decent and the sangria (not on menu but ask for it) very good. It's a proper family owned place rather than a chain. Prices are not bad for London.

dont go to Brick Lane, go to Tayabbs in Whitechapel, still walking distance from Liverpool Street. best Indian in London. you will have to book, and you will also queue for a short while. its BYO too. but i promise you wont regret it!! i know folk who travel right across London to visit Taybabbs if they're having curry.Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:Can't remember the name of the curry house I used to go to there. afterwards, you can wander back up towards Liverpool Street and take the elevator to the top of Heron Tower for a few scoops in Sushi Samba!! Top night, you're mrs & them will be well impressed!
Also, one of my favourite pubs is by Liverpool Street, The Waterpoet. nosebag is ace in there too. and will be buzzing in the daytime if weathers nice. theres loads to do round there, Spitalfields, Brick lane, Shoreditch. Charlotte street is alright but you should really avoiding going up West.

Tayabbs definitely.
Have a mooch round Spitalfields too.
There's also East at Andaz next to Liverpool Street Station which is surprisingly good value for it's location.

No, keep meaning to. Keep hoping to see an offer on it coz I don't really eat out enough that it'd be worth it otherwise I don't think. Prices there always look pretty good anyway though when I walk past?General Mannerheim wrote:have you got a tastecard!!??Prufrock wrote:Tomorrow night, before Chuck Ragan at the Garage, am off to Cafe La Divinia on Upper Street, recommended I think by GM. The last few pages are a massive reminder of how little I've explored London food wise! Still not been to Tayyabs, or Moro, and only had a few bits at Taz.
This wont be any use to BP, but if you're ever North London way there's a belting vegetarian south Indian place on Stroud Green Road called Jai Krishna. Food's top and it's ludicrously cheap (been twice and was about a tenner a head each time).

I'm going on the list of heathens for this, I know, but I've got a Tesco butty here that's actually pretty good. There - I've said it. Pastrami, cheese, gherkin and tomato on brown bread. This bag of Monster Munch isn't as good as I remember them being though.

As I've said before my fave London/UK/world restaurant is Moro. Iberian, North African influenced.Burnden Paddock wrote:Going to be down in London the weekend after next with Mrs BP, the s-i-l and b-i-l. It's fab. Going again on the culture vulture outing in early July. You almost certainly need to book in advance.

What flavour? Can only get pickled onion here, which are a pale imitation of what they used to beBruce Rioja wrote:This bag of Monster Munch isn't as good as I remember them being though.

Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
Am back in the habit of making my own bread... I now make a fresh loaf every day...
having gone through the wholemeal and granary shizzle - have settled on basic, all-white. It is simply the best - toasted or not...
to accompany it - freshly laid eggs from my own chooks - or the home-made strawberry jam I made the other week...
middle-aged spread on the way!

"Massive hunks of Roast Beef". A flavourless lightweight in comparison to "The Biggest Snack Pennies Can Buy"Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:What flavour? Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
One of my local's installed a bread oven and employs a breadmaker to produce wonderful 'artisan' bread. It is scrumptious stuff, but his creme de la pan is his sourdough breads - Maltster being a particular favourite.thebish wrote:Am back in the habit of making my own bread... Have you tried putting a little rye flour in? Say, 20-30g in a 400-500g of flour recipe. Just adds a little flavour without taking over.thebish wrote:Am back in the habit of making my own bread... I now make a fresh loaf every day...

They were my favourite. If you can get space invaders still, they might be worth a goBruce Rioja wrote:"Massive hunks of Roast Beef". Thanks to everyone for your recco's, i'll spend some time looking into them all.
Spitalfield market is the destination of choice for Sunday am. That's where Miss BP wants to head off. She'll be at 1D on Saturday night, which will make the meal out a bit cheaper!

Making Durban curry, chocolate brownies (the excessively gooey kind) and vanilla ice cream for tea.

Also off Oxford St is The Champion. Cheap beer and a dartboard if you need a breakBurnden Paddock wrote:We're staying at the Andaz, so that's definitely an option.Gary the Enfield wrote:Tayabbs definitely.
