Lad wants a bass guitar. Quick bit of research suggests an Ibanez or a Yamaha as a good buy for a beginner. Any of you guitar players confirm that?

Both very decent makes and a feck* better than most of us got to learn on. As with this stuff in general, you'll pay for what you get, but no need to go over £200 at this stage. Won't be long before he's familiarising you with the names Warwick and Trace Elliot.Bijou Bob wrote:Lad wants a bass guitar. As long as Warwick's second name isn't Hunt.

And in the early stages, you clearly don't want one that goes anywhere near 11...Bruce Rioja wrote:Bijou Bob wrote:As long as Warwick's second name isn't Hunt.Oh, and he'll need a proper bass amp.

One of our rabbits that live in the garage went missing yesterday. Mrs BP eventually spotted white fur sticking out from under the chest freezer, which has a gap about 2-3 inches from the floor. Feck knows how he squeezed under it. Lifted the freezer and pulled the poor bugger out, no damage seemingly done. Except that is that the freezer will no longer work.
The fuse has been changed, but does have anyone have any suggestions before I go out and spend £300 on a new one? He'd managed to get himself stuck in under the area where the motor (or whatever it is that runs these things) is.
Failing that, does anyone know where I can get a decent deal? I've been through the main places online and the best I can do is £259 for a 300L jobby, with free recycling. I'll chuck in a free rabbit for anyone that helps. I'll even skin the feck* for you!

Pulled the freezer out and cleaned the coils, then checked the lead. One of the rabbits has managed to get behind the freezer and chew through the cable. The question is, do I trust myself enough to replace the lead. Oh well, here goes.

should be fairly straightforwards. Just make a note of which colour is connected to what terminal...Burnden Paddock wrote:Pulled the freezer out and cleaned the coils, then checked the lead. I know a bloke who fixes industrial dishwashers and freezers and the like... he reckons 90% of problems are due to rodents chewing through wires.. many-a-time he finds frazzled rats and mice in the workings (though - not yet a rabbit!)Burnden Paddock wrote:Pulled the freezer out and cleaned the coils, then checked the lead. Super Rabbit!
Managed to sort it pretty easily. Cut the wire down to below the gnawed section, reattached the plug and put it into the extension lead. I feel all manly now, grrrrr!!! Except for the bit where I slashed my finger and it pissed with blood.
Genuine thanks to Bish.
As is my want, I assumed that it was fecked and was ready to splash out £300. I stupidly wouldn't have checked the lead, as I thought that it was too much of a coincidence not to be linked to yesterday's drama.
So Jay Jay (our rabbit, not the former Nigerian international footballer) gets a reprieve. At least, until I can prove that he chewed through the cable!

I have a cooker in my garage as featured on page one of this very thread. Anyway, The British Heart Foundation shoved something through the door asking for this kind of thing so I'm going to give them a call and let them have it. My charitable nature coupled with my slothful can't-be-arsed-with-the-hassle-of-selling-it attitude have met at an harmonious tipping point.

Can you not just send it round to LE's. The rabbit might climb in...

to be fair to you - it would probably have needed a new fuse too - so your earlier effort wasn't wasted!

They're a bunch of knob heads - be warned!Bruce Rioja wrote:I have a cooker in my garage as featured on page one of this very thread. We organised for them to come round when we were emigrating (day before getting on the plane). They were offered a bed with mattress (cost a grand), less than 2 year old fridge freezer and a dish washer. Wouldn't take anything. The mattress had a tiny mark on it, the fridge freezer had a seal that wasn't perfect (about 2 quid for a new seal) and the dish washer was too old.
I was furious with them. Someone in need could have made good use of them. It was all clean, in good working order and we were only getting rid due to practicalities of taking them with us and not knowing if we'd have need or space for them in Dubai. The movers somehow managed to squeeze the bed and mattress into the container, the other stuff we gave to the movers. Bit since when did charity have to be show room condition?

And who flings stuff out that's in showroom condition? Just had a quick sken at their leaflet again and sure enough, it says at the bottom, 'Please don't be disappointed if we're unable to accept items for reasons of safety or quality'.

If they wont take it then try Freecycle. Will be sure to go quickly on there.Bruce Rioja wrote:And who flings stuff out that's in showroom condition? We've a great service here called Take My Junk. Whatever it is they will come and collect gratis. They then fix it and sell it with proceeds going to charity. I even got them to pick a unit up from a friends apartment and deliver it to me. I gave them a couple of hundred Dirhams for their trouble. The odd job men/moving companies wanted at least a thousand Dirhams
