Still think it's hilarious you have to do that and not the 5000m. It's a slippery slope LE, mark my words, soon you'll be practicing your hammer throwing and baton changing skillsLeverEnd wrote:Big improvement GG, good running. It's worth the crappy feeling ones when you start to improve.Gooner Girl wrote:Feel a bit embarrassed posting here given that all my fellow amateur runners appear to have fallen by the wayside and its just me and the 3 hard core amazing runners left but anyway, had a great run tonight. 4 miles and it felt really good, still not fast compared to you lot but 1 minute 30 seconds quicker then when I last ran 4 miles (about a month ago) and way better then Sunday when I struggled round 5km hating every minute of it.
I did some 200m reps in a desperate attempt to remind my legs what spikes feel like 3 years after my last track race. 1500m in Carlisle on Saturday in the Northern League in the forecast pouring rain. A rude awakening beckons. Will do me good though. (I think)

Well done guys. GG - time to take the initiative now and keep it up. LE -good luck in Carlisle - you seem to be running really well at the moment, should be a good benchmark for where you're at?
Henderson's end fell race tonight. Found it really tough going and the 2nd ascent of the Pike came as a shock, but pretty pleased with my finishing position

I am running at least twice a week, seems to be completely random as to whether it feels good or whether I want to die half way round though.Harry Genshaw wrote:Well done guys. C'mon Bruce! Couch to 5km again? You can do it, you could probably skip the first few weeks.Bruce Rioja wrote:Fallen by the wayside.Gooner Girl wrote:Bruce Rioja wrote:Yeah, coz you never fell by the wayside?!Gooner Girl wrote: its just me and the 3 hard core amazing runners left![]()

Re: The athletics/running thread
Nah, I really need to go back to the very start. I had (honestly) earmarked Monday as a restart point, specifically as I was due to be at home throughout June. That got changed today. And you wonder why I don't have a cat/dogGooner Girl wrote: C'mon Bruce! Couch to 5km again? You can do it, you could probably skip the first few weeks.

I've had a good week.
Monday - Hill reps for 45 minutes followed by 6 x 100m sprints.
Tuesday - 750m swim followed by 2 x 1 k laps around the lake
Wednesday - League race 6 miles (hilly) around Epping Forest in 45:45
Thursday - 8.5k in 41:30 Warm down run.
Tomorrow I am swimming and Saturday I'll be running mile reps
Sunday I'll be on rhetorically bike.
Full on triathlete me.

Horwich Festival of Racing a week on Sunday. Are you around Bruce? I seem to remember you mentioning it last year. Runners, cyclists, unicyclists, street orienteers and a well stocked beer fridge at mine 50m from the finish line if anyone's around.

Good stuff. Sounds nearly as much hard work and energy draining as a trip round Sainsburys with my daughter this morning. But not quiteGary the Enfield wrote:Ended up doing a pyramid session.Gooner Girl wrote:How were your mile reps GtE?Gary the Enfield wrote:Yes. Good luck LE and anyone else racing this weekend.

Managed to get through it before the rain started. Then stood watching my daughter race in the pissing rain.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Since the Armageddon forecast for this weekend had put paid to my recce in the lakes, I went along to help our club co host a track and field event in Wigan. Was busy helping out officiating the long jump when I got persuaded to do the 1500m to get us a point. Was a bit intimidating at the start line with 5 young whipper snappers.
Thankfully there was 1 guy there I thought I could beat. He'll never know how grateful I was, that he was there! We were next door to Wigan egg chasers ground, was quite a boost coming down the back straight to cheers, even if they weren't for us

I hated it/ Struggling at halfway and felt like I was running through treacle for the last 2 laps. Going to the open meet at Stretford on Tuesday to do a 3000m race, hopefully the 1500m will help.Harry Genshaw wrote:Since the Armageddon forecast for this weekend had put paid to my recce in the lakes, I went along to help our club co host a track and field event in Wigan.
