Was busy helping out officiating the long jump when I got persuaded to do the 1500m to get us a point. Was a bit intimidating at the start line with 5 young whipper snappers.

Thankfully there was 1 guy there I thought I could beat. He'll never know how grateful I was, that he was there! We were next door to Wigan egg chasers ground, was quite a boost coming down the back straight to cheers, even if they weren't for us :D
I hated it/ Struggling at halfway and felt like I was running through treacle for the last 2 laps. Going to the open meet at Stretford on Tuesday to do a 3000m race, hopefully the 1500m will help.
Are you giving up the fells now to be a full-time miler Harry?
Am I bloody hell!! :D

Went out about half nine. 10k in 50.21. Barely done any exercise in six months for a multitude of reasons, and that's the first 10k I've done I think in 2014 so not too unhappy. Went out way too quick and had to chug home. Still way too hot and muggy for me even at that time too. Not made for it.

Hopefully can have an event free summer and get going properly. I've not been right since I quit smoking though :D.

For someone with no training, in hot weather, on a training run -that time aint too shabby Pru. I reckon an unbroken spell and you'll be flying sir.

Further than me too. Did nothing yesterday. Really should take advantage of the hot weather if I'm to prepare properly for Budapest.

No, you really should make sure you have the occasional rest day or you will get an injury and not make Budapest! :spank:

Cheers for the encouragement, gents. Thought GG needed some truly amateur companionship!

LE, I think so. It took bloody ages to get right. Three weeks or so to be pain-free walking and even then I couldn't sit with my legs crossed (like primary-school-on-the-floor proper crossed) for donkeys. It's a little sore today, but no more so than other bits. Think where it pinged last time was the same place I got a dead leg before Xmas so think it's somewhere I need to strengthen as I'd imagine muscle that's gone once is always more likely to go again.

Bit of scar tissue maybe, or adhesions from the bruise, both can make the muscle shorter and less flexible. I'd recommend getting a foam roller and 'ironing' it out. Not quite as good as sports massage but best DIY version.

Agreed about the foam roller. Hurts like he'll but it's worth it.

That's much more like it - I have always been a bit surprised when you have talked 56 minutes or whatever it was in the past.

You don't. You need your arse kicking. You should be able to run much faster than you do.

I can if you put me on a football pitch! :P

I should probably be brave, bite the bullet and enter something that isn't track and field. Been several years since my last cross country.

I know my limitations! Long distance running is simply one of many things I'm not very good at. Sitting on my arse and eating hula hoops is more of a forte of mine. We all have our strengths and weaknesses Gte ;)

But distance running allows the best rewards in terms of training for anyone, natural or not. I could train for a year to be a jumper or sprinter and never get anywhere. So no excuses!

Nope, always been shite at everything other than long distance. If it involves speed, power or coordination I'm rubbish at it.
Always last to be picked at football on the playground etc etc :(
