Re: The athletics/running thread
Mentored one of the newbie coaches tonight as he took his first ever high jump session with the kids and then I taught him how to do it. Sneaked a few jumps in myself. SOOOO much more fun then long distance running!

I didn't do any good ones but the bad ones were still quite fun! And we used a flexi bar so it doesn't hurt to land on it!

Re: The athletics/running thread
I'll be watching this run with keen interest. My own Wainwright round took me five years so I didn't trouble the record keepers, but is Joss Naylor's record under threat?

Re: The athletics/running thread
A car crash on the M25 left tail backs for 3 junctions in each direction of Jct.25 ( near my house).
Consequently the resultant gridlock in surrounding streets left me unable to travel 4 miles to my Aquathlon race (It took me 30 minutes to travel 1 mile) so I had to abort and took my daughter for a bike ride instead. We thumbed our noses at the traffic and rode on river paths and bridal paths for about an hour. It was really nice and peaceful.
I could have got on my road bike and cycled over there in 20 minutes but, to be frank, I would have been stressed and rushed as I was late home from work too (due to the aforementioned traffic)
Nice to kick back sometimes.

We sacked spin class off last night to go for a short bike ride as I'm still breaking in the new machine. 10 minutes from home, wearing shorts & sun glasses we were hit by a huge feck off thunderstorm. Spin class looks a bit more tempting for the future

I've been doing too many races off too little training. Going to chill out for a few weeks and do very little running. Full of aches and pains and stopped enjoying it. Will look to do more cycling, gym and swimming for a bit. Pre-entered a 10k on July 11th which I'll do as it's also a social occasion.

I was going to go for a swim this evening but realised
1. I needed to go to the supermarket and
2. 'One born every minute' is back on

so going to start the abs and squats challenge again I think to make myself feel less guilty about skiving. Not sure where to start it though, its a bit easy at the beginning, seems a bit pointless!

Two towers fell race tonight. A couple of brutal early climbs but I was running quite well. First big descent and I went over badly on my ankle with a sickening crunching sound. Ended up hobbling the rest of the race. Climbs and the flat wasn't too bad, but the remaining descents were agony. Got a huge balloon now where my ankle should be.
Looks like rest is on the cards

Re: The athletics/running thread
To be honest I nearly dropped out there and then but I was a long way from the end anway, so thought I may as well plod on to the finish. I regularly used to knacker my ankles in my footy days that they looked like horses fetlocks for 9 months every year. Should be ok with a weeks restGooner Girl wrote:Oh no hunHarry Genshaw wrote:Two towers fell race tonight. A couple of brutal early climbs but I was running quite well. Jeez HG. Hope it's fine.
Today I was supposed to do a spin class but the instructor didn't turn up. Instead the head of fitness guy did a 'high intensity interval training session'. I'll never walk again.

Everyone's falling apart/ skiving off!
Did a brick session tonight. 30 minutes increasing effort on the bike followed by a two mile run at 14:30.
Slightly makes up for my missed aquathlon last night.
And GG? I'm nicking that squats and abs challenge.
