What are you playing tonight?

^ A band I could never really get into, though I do like a few of their songs. Interesting story about John Frusciante is that he auditoned to join Frank Zappa's ill-fated '88 tour, but lost interest after he found out about Zappa's Zero Tolerance of drugs in his band.

A lot of their stuff I can take or leave but that album is fab to chuck on in the background.

Sounds about right re: John, once he got clean he had to relearn how to play guitar he was that f*cked. His solo stuff is awesome though: Shadows Collide with People and To Record Only Water for Ten Days are two of my fav albums ever.

I have that album. 'Some' decent tracks on it, although I do find so much of their stuff follows the same formula.

I still count it as a "new" album, rather than an "old" friend. :-)

I prefer Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magic tbh..

Well I never knew that! My mum and dad saw that tour in Birmingham and I've got the Titties & Beer shirt from the gig! haha!

Goes to show what's more important to Frusciante, right? fecking dirty needles and dirty spoons. feck him! :hang:

I've never had any time for the RHCP since they kicked Mr Bungle off festival bills in the 99/00 because they have a personal problem with FNM front-man Mike Patton. Absolute grudge-holding chancers. :spank:

I went to a RHCP gig at the Arena in 2002/3 and left after the Mars Volta opened the show (I didn't pay for the ticket). I hate them that much. Pricks!

I came on here to recommend Tor Lundvall as a wonderfully relaxing ambient artist and the mention of RHCP has got my blood boiling!

You've just given me another reason to dislike them. Faith No More/Patton infinitely better than their formulaic shite.

I'd have loved to have seen that Tour! Not as much as, say, the '74 band, but they're still up there. Unfortunately, I was -1 years old. :(

Frank Turner's side band, with their stuff sliiiiightly heavier than his usual offerings! :oyea: Off to see them in a couple of weeks!

Listening to all the acts I am not familiar with on this incredible festival line up as me and five pals have booked our flights and tickets to the Windy City in September to be in attendance.....

Well jel, Doc. There are that many bands that I want to see on that line-up that I'd have to draw up a pretty ruthless plan regarding who'll be clashing with who, and who I'd want to see the most.

There shouldn't be too many clashes Bruce. As far as I'm aware (going off last year's event) there are 5 stages (all pointing 'outwards' from a central point at various spots around the park) and on the two 'main' stages (which are next to each other) once one band finishes on one stage, the act on the other stage starts up almost straight away. You might miss a few mins as you meander on over via the beer tent(s) but not too much. The only problem with that is that it is a relentless onslaught of constant live performance! When will we have time to eat and drink if band after band is top drawer?! haha. It just needs some careful planning with a fine-tooth-comb.

I can't wait!

Looks fantastic. I see Lucero are on there, they were fantastic at the Deaf Institute in Manchester the other week. 'The Front Bottoms' sound interesting.
