with the captaincy - new regime just underway - there is no way they are gonna displace the captain now...

interesting discussion, maybe - but not summat that's gonna happen any time soon...

no chance of them declaring!! certainly not under 350!!
Well, yesterday they said that they'd be happy with a lead of 225 and now they have one of 287.

Agreed and the balance is we've lost the best spin bowler in the world (as was) and Trott, Pietersen etc.

Big players all left at roughly the same period.

That is going to take some time to rebuild.

Look how long it took the Aussies when they lost most of that outstanding side.

Swann is the biggest loss as you just can't replace his wickets.

#unbefuckinglievable

That'll be a Sri Lankan bowler then?!

Just 30 away from Sri Lanka's all time record eighth wicket partnership now.

Well, Lancs made 650-6, with Ashwell Prince getting a career best in first class cricket of 257 n.o.

So well done to them - finally, after 9 games or whatever, remembering how to effin' bat...

Good score, though. Northants, in reply, currently 42-3. Still 608 runs behind and 448 away from avoiding the follow-on.

ok - bright side - this is an absolutely PERFECT opportunity for Cook to find form and re-assert his batting prowess... silence the doubters once and for all...

It's going to take considerably more than one good innings, my friend. ;)

Amen to that. But for us winning under his captaincy I'm not even sure he'd get picked at all.

maybe - but he clearly has class as a batsman - and he's out of form. sometimes one big confidence-boosting innings is all it takes...

it's certainly not time to bin Cook off yet... dropping him would be a huge mistake, i think...

(having said that - Sri Lankan fielders - feel free to drop Cook as many times as you like!)

(Cook has just gone ahead of Boycott on the list of all-time top England run-scorers..)

(and before anyone asks - in four FEWER innings)

A year or so ago nobody could get him out, so I'm not entirely sure he'd be totally discarded quite that quickly. It is fair to say he isn't on any sort of form, but he's probably done enough to warrant some patience. As a batsman at least.
