took afore-photoed dog out for a walk today - about 5 or 6 miles give-or-take... totally too much for her

she crawled back up the last hill and when we got home collapsed in a howling fit (yes - literally collapsed and literally howled!) with what I can only assume was cramp - though it looked very much like she had magically broken all her legs!

she then slumped in the sitting room and panted full-on steam-train-style for 32 minutes without let-up before settling down into a more normal breathing pattern and nodding off!

I think that's it for her and longer walks... I forget how much she's getting on now...

On the rose theme: Red one is a Tea rose and the yellow I'm pretty sure is Zambra. Had both a long time and they just keep coming up lovely, year after year. Camera is just a Sony Cybershot, pretty basic but does decent pics for what it is.

nice roses, Tango - have never been a huge rose fan - but went to a national trust walled rose garden last year - and was inspired.. I bought a (Marie Antoinette? - will check in the morning) - with simply the most stunningly amazing scent - so I put it by the front door and enjoy it when I leave home and return...

Have to be fair, Mrs Tango is the green-fingered one. She does all the clever stuff like pruning and dead-heading, planting, feeding and watering etc . I fetch and carry compost and mow the lawns, dig beds and make boxes .

Gee, never go out without your camera. Walked around Bolton this afternoon in the sunshine and had take-away fish and chips from Olympus. Highlight for me was seven different troupes of Morris dancers performing on Deansgate outside Marks and Spencers. Two of them were women clog-dancing teams and their percussion was pretty good. Traditional folk tunes on guitar, banjo, drums and assorted bells and whistles and everybody clapping along. No age limits, young, middle-aged and elderley, from the ruthless to the toothless, all had fun in the sun. They grabbed all the little kids at the end and got em all dancing. I got to chat with some of them and also had a few enthusiastic invitations to join them. Simple pleasures hey?

Where Eagles Dare!

This is a young man I look after and occasionally take for a walk in the Lakes. Todays walk was Yewbarrow from Wasdale and this image is taken right on the top of Stirrup Crag at the north summit with Kirk Fell behind. The continuation of the walk immediately after this was almost vertically down for about 500 feet with several 6-8 foot pitches which were indeed vertical. Very nearly straying from walking into climbing territory, but we both survived. Only 5 miles in the day but 2900' of severe up, followed by a similar measure of severe down, but a cracking day!

Back in time a bit, around the late fifties, Bond brought out an electric start scooter, the P2.
It cost £200 new. I had the model below and bought it second hand (probably about £90 or so). It had the sleek lines of a bread van and the balance of a drunken sailor......... Just seen one advertised at £5000....
