Aye, though I'd probably argue that it wouldn't have mattered if we'd made the score we threatened to first time round and bowled em out for less as we should have done.thebish wrote:and - if you're in the mood for honesty - a top order nightmare yesterday evening!BWFC_Insane wrote:To be honest the game was lost by a middle/lower order collapse in our first innings and then poor bowling for Sri Lankas second innings.TANGODANCER wrote:Can you believe it? And given the BBC trend for co commentator standards for the World Cup coverage if that continues into TMS reckon I've got a chance....

Lost our best players, some in quite an unexplained manner. A captain who seems to increasingly be clueless as to how to get the best out of his bowlers in a variety of conditions and whose batting is absolutely non-existent, gone back to a coach who failed last time round.....not playing a spinner...it has the feel of a total shambles to me.

So, I think Cook needs dropping/changing - it seems to be affecting his game as well as the team's game. As for the coach, is his record that bad in tests?

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
Said this when we were a good side, we never sorted out our wobbly batting line up and even then we always had a collapse in us.
This was covered up by the bowling line up of Anderson, Broad and crucially, Swann.
But we never sorted it, now that our bowling line up is more mediocre, we are absolutely exposed by a batting line up that isn't up to it.
This is a 400-450 pitch at the least and we've managed to throw wickets away.
Our bowlers now have to go back out and bowl without the requisite amount of rest.

They might, but that is hardly the point. England need to sort the problems out not just accept covering them up.Montreal Wanderer wrote:Hang on! We aren't going to win every game/test match series, and there are just no guarantees in sport.BWFC_Insane wrote:

Right now we aren't at our best, like English football, Bolton Wanderers etc, etc. You don't just "sort problems out" by any set formula. Motivation, determination and effort (and maybe remembering not too long back we were winners) and things will turn round. Have to say mate, your negative take on almost everything is almost as depressing as the results. If we won everything every time we played, what point competing?

Quite - and I'll keep coming back to this: Take the captaincy off of Cook. His decisions, his field positions and not least his own game are currently atrocious. At the very least we might get Cook the competent batsman back.BWFC_Insane wrote:

Joe Root currently looking awesome and an absolute delight to watch. Great ton, Son.
EDIT: Well in, Jimmy. A little unorthodox in the main but so what?! A great half ton.
