Re: This weeks RIP's........
My favourite Eli Wallach film, Baby Doll, also starred Karl Malden. It was Wallach's first film and apparently his favourite too.

It's quite extraordinary. You can watch it full here.Baby Doll (1956) has been called notorious, salacious, revolting, dirty, steamy, lewd, suggestive, morally repellent and provocative. Time Magazine was noted as stating: "Just possibly the dirtiest American-made motion picture that has ever been legally exhibited..." New York's Cardinal Spellman declared the film "evil in concept... certain to exert an immoral and corrupting influence on those who see it." The stark, controversial, black and white Southern drama was so viciously denounced by the Legion of Decency upon its release with a "C" (or condemned) rating that many theaters were forced to cancel their showings, but it still did moderately well at the box office despite the uproar. Baby Doll's impact was heightened by its themes: moral decay, lust, sexual repression, seduction, infantile eroticism and the corruption of the human soul.

Not much difference in us really, Dujon :Dujon wrote:Geez, Canada's a litigious society!Montreal Wanderer wrote:Call me Tango again and you'll hear from my lawyer!
Sorry to both of you.
One, a slightly eccentric dance-loving, Anglophile with Irish ancestry, who can speak some Spanish, has musical taste that ended at 1990 and is mainly a "been there, done that" past most of it, pensioner who plays with paint, rather than a physical partaker, these days.
Two, A long time emigrant librarian from these fair shores who is a lumberjack and he's all right. He is an expert on snow, amongst other things, and probably sings " Allouette" in French in the shower and may wear a Mountie's outfit at parties.
In addition to being extensive readers, we also both have a rather strange hobby in supporting Bolton Wanderers .

I had not heard of him - he only opened his store a year before I left England. I've been reading about him - an impressive Boltonian. RIP.

Generally when backed into a corner and told I can't use Aaron Mooy as the player I think is the greatest ever to have played the beautiful game I choose Di Stefano as my realistic pick. The man won 5 European Cups on his own.Hoboh wrote:Alfredo di Stefano

All four of them died of cancer. Not that any of them were going to die peacefully in bed as nonogenarians, mind.

I had the pleasuere of seeing the Ramones about 8 times through the '90s
Not technically gifted or varied in their musicianship but a good fun time everytime. My pudding basin haircut in my teens had me labelled (briefly) Dee Dee Ramone and tonight I shall done my converse sneakers, jeans, white shirt an d leather jacket and go through my Ramones Anthology.

Sad day.
As a kid I'd heard bits of the popular Clash songs and the odd Buzzcocks track but the Ramones were the first punk band I ever sat down to listen to properly and it changed my life.
