Next best thing, quick shave and get my wig and lycra on with a bit of slap. Shut your eyes and pretend.

ahhh... it seems like the least fun of the two proposals, probably cheaper in the long-run, though!

Surely, put two blokes in a room with two of those things and the mother and father of all MYPROTEIN.com battles will break out, no? And that'd be excellent fun. :Jedi:

Yes? I'm doing London Docklands tomorrow. 1500m swim in the Royal Albert Dock followed by 42 km cycle up and down the North Bank of the Thames then a 10k run starting at 1:15 pm and finishing (hopefully) before 4 O'Clock.

What do you want to know Mein Herr?

I'm doing a sprint one, good sir. Work is sponsoring one, entered the ballot and got a place, (un)luckily. I'm fine with the running and cycling, but worried about how long 750m in a pool will take. I'm planning on getting some lessons next week to at least point me in the right direction of a good stroke. Thoughts?

Gary's undoubtedly your best man to answer, but in my opinion, if you have a chance of swimming lessons take em. The brother in law tackled his first few triathlons with the mindset that he could swim, so why bother with instruction? Once he had a few sessions though his style and times improved no end.

750m in a pool? For a sprint it would usually be 400m in a pool or 750m in open water (for which you'll need a wetsuit)

Definitely take lessons. I thought I could swim until I started a swimfit class three years ago. My technique was awful and I was relying on arm strength alone and not doing very well. Three years on and I have a decent level of stamina and half an idea of what I'm doing.

Alternatively contact your local swimming or triathlon club. There are more and more every year springing up.

I'm not the fastest swimmer but would anticipate doing 750m in about 15 minutes with a wetsuit and about 18 without in open water. In a pool I would be looking at around 17 minutes.
