He's also said he's not a spending manager and he's all about working with and improving the players he's got. We could go on for ever with this and your views on the subject are well known to all of us on here. I just don't see that talking like this on the eve of the season is going to help improve on last year's appalling start.BWFC_Insane wrote:What he says is correct. No manager will promote this side. Just get on with it and start being positive instead of constantly insinuating that players he brought in are not good enough but it's not his fault.

Re: Abdoulaye's going t'Souk transfer thread
This is his final year of the contract he got when he arrived. Being positive he now has his own team, players he says are focused and have no other 'agenda' than playing for Bolton. He has plenty of reason not to have this lot tearing the league a new one (though Burnley did tat last year with no more expectation). But has no excuse for not having us in or around the play-off zone.
If he has a start even half as poor as last year the knives will be out ... & very rightly. If he starts well the mood will change to a positive one very quickly.
I now where my £fiver's going.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

My views are I want us to do well. We won't without additions. Beyond that I couldn't care less who is managing us so long as we do well. Everyone knows we need strikers. On here everyone practically has said it. It is so glaringly obvious. It is pretty obvious that until those strikers are signed that we will struggle. I don't see what is controversial about that. Unless you think we could find a manager who would be happy to work without adding new players and under the expectation of promotion with the current group. Because that is just absolute pie in the sky....

We are nowhere near top 6 standard and you can put any manager in charge you like - it won't change. If we don't add players this squad won't be troubling the top 6 this season.bobo the clown wrote:This is his final year of the contract he got when he arrived. Just to add that his team players are now honest and all pointing in the right direction, apart from the three that haven't come in due to only two of 'em going out.bobo the clown wrote:This is his final year of the contract he got when he arrived. Based on what exactly? We finished well last season and have a stronger squad? Nowhere near top 6 standard? How so?BWFC_Insane wrote:We are nowhere near top 6 standard and you can put any manager in charge you like - it won't change. So why has he not made it an absolute priority since the end of last season instead of bringing in Trotter, Danns, Feeney, Dervite, Moxey etc....also why did he sign Beckford & C Davies if he doesn't think they are good enoughBWFC_Insane wrote:Everyone knows we need strikers. This team is full of players that Freedman has personally signed

Can't remember the exact numbers but a lot of our goals are missing from last season.
I agree that we've strengthened the back line a bit and consolidated the loans we had elsewhere. But I don't see where the goals will come from.
Re: Abdoulaye's going t'Souk transfer thread
We all want us to do well. And I think our manager being publicly negative will not help that aim. He should be talking up Davies and beckford whilst still trying to get others in. Both are experienced, have performed at this level, and have been signed by him. Give them a boost, show some positivity. How can he expect to get the best out of people with that attitude?BWFC_Insane wrote:My views are I want us to do well. We won't without additions. He signed players available on frees. I'm sure if there was a striker of the right quality on a free he'd have been interested in the same way he is interested in loan deals now.Peter Thompson wrote:So why has he not made it an absolute priority since the end of last season instead of bringing in Trotter, Danns, Feeney, Dervite, Moxey etc....also why did he sign Beckford & C Davies if he doesn't think they are good enoughBWFC_Insane wrote:Everyone knows we need strikers. I'm going to "reckon" that when he spent a couple of hundred thousand on Craig Davies he didn't do so with the expectation that he'd be the man leading the line expected to bag 20 goals a season. One might say Beckford was an error but as a 3rd striker or even with the right partner might work. But still I don't think you survive with only two strikers. We sold one for money and the other left on a free and still we're unable to sign anyone!

Truth is he can't win. If he lies and says "I think we'll be contenders as we are" everyone goes mental on that quote if it doesn't happen.
He tells the truth about where he thinks we are and everyone goes mental....

the great bullshittery interpretation and analysis rumbles - alarming its now being accepted by you insano as truth.
anyway as a master of the art would it not be possible for him to express quiet optimism and confidence in the team, but at the same time say how he's still looking to improve the team. Isn't that the normally manager speak?
As has been commented unumerable times before its about what happens on the pitch - chap on wanderers ways seemed to capture a mood - 'sick and tired of the manager not playing a team with a shred of creativity and a style of football that is as welcome as a trip to the dentist, he's making excuses again today I see about having not a lot of options up front shouldn't he be concentrating on the positive mind set, he's giving his players an excuse ahead of the start of the season'
I'm sensing hope springs eternal, but patience is thin

I really, really didn't want to get involved in yet another backwards and forwards about our manager's public statements.
But then this

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

DSB, that's exactly what we need. Get rid of DF now before someone else snaps him up!
And no BWFCI, you know perfectly well that no-one is saying that, You are deliberately missing the point which is that while working on the very necessary recruitment of forwards, he should be trying to boost the confidence of those that will be playing in the early games of the season.
Anyway, bring on the game, and let's hope the strikers are trying to prove a point, play brilliantly and it was all genius mind games from The Dougster.

The feckers actually have four: English, Scots Gaelic, Lallands, and 'Wegian. Everybody uses the first except some ornery bastards that use the second and a few fey academics who quote swathes of eighteenth century poetical works in the third and unumerable rabble who occupy (some say inhabit, but that, surely, is the wrong verb) the city sometimes called the Benghazi of the North.

Rightly or wrongly self-preservation is going to play a part. If it all goes tits up he's more chance of clinging on for longer if he can say 'told you they were all shit' than if he'd praised them to the heavens. There is of course the not-unrelated question as to whether him saying they're basically shite is going to be a self-fulfilling prophesy.

I fear the self-fulfilling prophecy is already upon us, because basically our Doogs is a bit of a dick. I've NEVER felt this pessimistic days before a season is about to kick off, and it's mostly down to the Nostrodamic unravellings that lie before me having tried to interpret our man's pronouncements...Prufrock wrote:Rightly or wrongly self-preservation is going to play a part.
