Last minute Ameobi deal, paired with Mason, up the football league we go!

I can't imagine the "best player in the world" would want to play for us? Or that we could afford his wages

I suspect that will be in both their biographies. But at the minute, neither of them being called N'gog, I might have a punt.

We could probably do something with a 5 in mf, with 4 of them hitting 8/9 goals. At the mo, I don't see that MF. We would still need one upfront bagging a good few too. Not sure we have that person either.

Eintracht Frankfurt offered him £57000 a week plus performance bonuses, but he wanted more than that...

Mark Davies if he's as good as is made out should be able to bag 8/9/10 goals. Chungy too, but then we know he probably won't.

We're short of goals though that is for sure.

I've not seen a single person saying Mark Davies provides much in the way of goal threat himself. You might as well say Bogdan, if he's as good as is made out should be able to bag 8/9/10 goals.

Chungy, Hall, Feeney all about 5 each. Cravies might get a couple if he's got to play.

People have described Mark Davies as "the best in the division". Not that I agree, but an attacking midfield player talked about in those terms should be able to bag 8/9 goals at least surely?

Not only not signing amyone for a month but also no seroous rumours either we have decended to squabbling about the merits of a player we DO have. This thread has turned into a load of shite. The Arab needs to sort it out.

hmmmm.... back in April last year you said that a midfield with Mavis in front of Spearing and Medo would be "miles ahead of owt else in this division."

Zidane didn't once score ten league goals for Real Madrid in a season, managing it only once in his entire career, and he was all right. It isn't Mavies' game.

It has the potential to be, but Mark Davies has to show that he can influence games over a long period not just here and there. Clearly injuries have not helped and I think he's a good player but he has to prove he can be the main man, dictating play in there.

I know what you're saying but I think in this league if you play 1 up your attacking midfield player needs to chip in.

I agree it isn't really his game but if he stays fit and plays I expect him to get 8/9/10 goals this season playing there. I think he can do that personally.

I think he can. If he plays 35 games, I'd expect 8 goals at least, like BWFCI says

Said to have wanted £40k pw plus £30k for every point they get. Every point! So in a two-win week he'd be bagging £220k.

Ameobi is worth a punt, but for me we should now be blooding our youth or looking at League One/Scandinavia for strikers who can step up and make a name for themselves a la Ricketts.

Trouble with that is League One clubs now want millions for their strikers.

Game has changed - players who are most likely to make it are already in premiership reserve/youth squads.

The rest is one huge needle in a haystack search. And not a cheap one either.

I'd back Kevin Phillips to score more than our deadly duo. Prove me wrong lads, I'll be delighted.

Trouble is, TD, he can't play as lone striker - not got the legs now to do anything but penalty-area predator. So it restricts you to two up front at all times, which might not be for the best. And we've already got Beckford filling that role, even if he does occasionally run about a bit.
