Eurgh, that reminds me, we're only 3 years away from a load of '50 years since Sergeant Peppers' bollocks.

It won't bother me one jot if I never hear another Beatles record again, Beefy. Think I got about a third of the way through Sgt Pepper's before giving up on it, but their story fascinates me. But yeah, you're right, I think we are.

Nonetheless, and no-matter where your musical tastes are, that's one hell of an interesting picture of a Belisha Beacon and a guy with no shoes on.

And here's the live webcam showing people crossing the road at the same spot. Note how the Black Cabs rarely slow down, let alone stop.

It's just I still remember the 40th anniversary wankfest. I'm not quite ready for another dose of beatlemania.

Well, oddly enough, I did work for the Company which make & supply the medical oxygen generators. You would be stunned what people needing medical oxygen would do with them. Cutting holes in the face mask supplying pure oxygen so they can smoke while using them (till they go up "wooof") is only one of the idiotic ideas they have had.

The article states:
"We urge people to always use electrical equipment in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and guidance, always ensure that no electrical items are left charging overnight
Surely many people charge their cell (mobile) phones overnight.

Easy on The Beatles, lads. You have to put these things in context. When they started to release records it was in the midst of things such as Tell Laura I love Her and Leader of the Pack whilst Bill Haley was still belting out his boring, repetitive stuff. There was still some decent material about, but . . .

From my perspective (remember I was still in my late teens) The Beatles brought to the radio a 'new sound' which was refreshing and different. The fact that they didn't sing very well seemed not to matter. Youngsters paid a small fortune to attend concerts where they couldn't hear the performers for the female screams surrounding them. It was an incredible phenomenon, one which I have never quite understood.

I still like the occasional playing of The Beatles recordings I have (the No1 album and Revolver). Then there's the plethora of instrumental arrangements recorded of their output. So, they do have a place in popular music and will probably still be being played or rearranged for decades to come.

I didn't 'get' the Beatles as a kid .... Granada & Bill Grundy showed them playing 'She Loves You' and, at about age 6 I thought it was trite. Got into Revolver a bit more & I quite liked their acid induced phase. But they were a phenomenom and they did open doors and it's a bit sweeping to take the modern view and dismiss them.

Despite being Scouse.

Post Beatles well Lennon wrote a few ballads, McCartney had initial good stuff and 'Band on the Run was as good as anything in its era. Since then he has been an embarrassment. The old uncle who doesn't know when he's being humoured. Ringo is a doddering old looney repeating " peace and love" all day and George, well, he was an odd old hippy but the coolest of them all and he funded 'Life of Brian' .... .

But all things must pass I suppose. (Winner !)

At least they all got out of Liverpool and never even considered going back. So not all bad.
