I was going to return the compliment but couldn't find any Bury players who had been famous enough to have their own statue. Nearest I could manage was Ronnie Mauge, who I think has a plaque outside StrangewaysGeneral Mannerheim wrote:re the statue - id be pretty pissed off ive id gone to that trouble and sacrificed a shirt, that there is not a better photo knocking about than that!

Re: Carling Cup 1st round draw: Bury at home
Dougie now says in the BEN, that our win wasnt lucky and that over the 120mins we were the best team?
He admits we were shite in the first half (which even he surely couldnt deny), but then goes on to say we got back to our proper game of passing and moving!!! Did he watch the same fecking game as me, we're the most stationery side in the land. Our main problem is nobody moves for the ball, they all want to receive it stood still. He's fecking screwed up in the head!!!!

Re: Carling Cup 1st round draw: Bury at home
It has already been said by others in terms of how poor we were.
But what infuriated me was that Beckford let a kid do all his running then managed to fluff two chances that were easier to score and miss. Can't defend Beckford. He's bone idle. And he is hardly lethal in front of goal.
The 4-4-2 didn't work at all. Just putting two strikers up front isn't the answer.
Hall flattered to deceive again.
On the plus side I actually thought Trotter looked ok and Feeney definitely is a threat.
After that it was hard to take many positives. Overrun in midfield. Powderpuff up front - Wilkinson worked his socks off but got no help from lazy bones. No tempo to our game so we ended up passing it around, going backwards then lumping it up in hope.
I can see how Freedman wants to play, but some of the players simply aren't good enough to make it happen. So we end up having to go backwards. Pratley a prime example. As we started to inject a bit of zip into our passing through the second half you could see he simply wasn't comfortable taking the ball and doing something with it.

Re: Carling Cup 1st round draw: Bury at home
If you play Beckford you sacrifice a unit of work rate for the flair to score goals. If he then fluffs his chances .... & I recall 3 very good ones ... then you have precisely nothing.
Wilkinson gave a decent performance but that wasn't "a two" up front it was simply two players up front, quite separately.
As an aside, Wilko does have a strange, gawky look to him out there and he runs oddly. Is this post or prior the running gurus I wonder.
As an aside to the aside, if Trotter played well then God help us when he played poorly. I know I don't give the poor fckr a break but if he wants to simply watch the game go past him he should buy a ticket like the rest of us. He just doesn't think fast enough to keep up with the game.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: Carling Cup 1st round draw: Bury at home
An away perspective.
Seems fair?

Bury bowed out of the league cup at the first round stage for the 250th consecutive season last night in distressing circumstances. While virtually cruising to a relatively comfortable 1-0 win against a team 2 divisions above us, we conceded a soft penalty to send the tie into extra time, and then let the opposition take control with two further goals which effectively ended the match for us.
To be fair, Bury didn't play particularly well, we hadn't needed to as we matched a very poor b****n side. There were moments when the quality difference was there to see but they weren't able to create anything from it and ultimately the two sides seemed very well matched.
Bury took the lead in the 20th minute when an Andrew Tutte cross was hammered home by returning hero Ryan Lowe and from that moment on we looked fairly comfortable.
The home side had a few chances but Shwan Jalal did well to keep them at bay. The game actually turned a few minutes before half time when Jalal picked up an injury and was replaced during the break by former wanky wanderer Rob Lainton. To be fair to Lainton he did very well for the first 50 minutes of the second half. Gathering crosses with ease and making a few key saves but then after a massive six minutes of injury time had been announced, and five of them played, he had a rush of blood to the head and made an un-necessary challenge in the box on Jermain Beckford and the ref pointed to the spot in one of the most heart-breaking moments of all my years watching Bury.
The penalty was despatched with aplomb, despite Lainton going the right way, and we headed into extra time.
Both of our other subs had been geared towards seeing the game out at 1-0, while b****n had brought on some of their better players, who looked like they had been placed on the bench in case they needed extra firepower. As such they had some attacking quality on the pitch which enabled them to score twice in the opening minutes of extra time, one a forced own goal from the excellent Chris Sedgwick and the other a quite brilliant free kick from Neil Danns. A minute later and captain Jim McNulty got on the end of a Nicky Adams free kick to bring it to 3-2 and to give us a chance.
Despite a huge penalty appeal in the final seconds, b****n held out and it finished 3-2 to the championship side.
On the evidence of last night, b****n have a long hard season ahead, just in case anyone cares. Although I'm fairly confident we'll be there again next season, playing them in the league.
Bury had a reported 2448 out of a crowd of 9249 although it felt like more than that.
All in all it was a gut wrenching evening and I feel utterly deflated. At work today in my office in b****n, I'm not talking to anyone. I want to go home, I want to go home. b****n's a shit-hole. I want to go home.

We are through!
Seen it many times before where we struggle against lower league teams, it happens but we won!
On a positive note, could there be any better way to knock them out and beat them in their cup final?
They were the better side and nearly did it but had it snatched away with a soft penalty and then practically folded in extra time.
Lots of p*ssed off bucket shakers I will guarantee.

Re: Carling Cup 1st round draw: Bury at home
Seems a pretty fair assessment, based on what I heard and read. I really didn't want to hear the Dougie version because he's incapable of admitting anY fault. He can't blame the players because they're his, and he sure won't take any blame himself. He just has to improve and adopt a more honest approach.

This. Look, bless, they can't even write Bolton without using asterisks and lower-casing the B. Oh no! They don't regard us as a proper noun! I am thoroughly emasculated, disenfranchised and dehumanised! Oh no, I've just realised, I'm not. Shake on, shit-head.jaffka wrote:We are through!

As for us, it's hardly a confidence-builder, but at least there were positive notes for some players (I see Dervite, Wheater, Wilko and especially Feeney getting applause, while Oscar Threlkeld got another two hours' experience. No bad thing.

Re: Carling Cup 1st round draw: Bury at home
The reason there were six added minutes was because, on top of the normal 3 to 4 minutes, the B**y (we can do that) team decided to take a 3 minute time-out with Bout 10 minutes left. The ref was too soft with that. Should have simply told us to play on.
It's pretty clear that the new, organised B**y are keen at the gamesmanship stuff. Shame really.

By the rules of the game it's "b**y", not "B**y". Because improper towns make improper nouns.bobo the clown wrote:The reason there were six added minutes was because, on top of the normal 3 to 4 minutes, the B**y (we can do that) team decided to take a 3 minute time-out with Bout 10 minutes left. Re: Carling Cup 1st round draw: Bury at home
As a neutral it's been my first visit to the Ree....Mac....whatever for several years. The game didn't really have much quality, but that didn't stop it being a thumping good cup-tie, but it must be a worry for Bolton fans that your first-and-a-half string couldn't threaten the Bury goal until, well, a week next Thursday it seemed.
But, for a tenner, way better than staying at home!
As for the stadium - I'm disappointed from the moment you get in all it is is "sell, sell, sell". From away kits to rooms for hire to the next game, even the scoreboard didn't show the score much, just the ads every time I looked up - give it a rest, huh? Really puts me off going back.
Good to see Bolton in the traditional white/navy with red lettering/numbers, but the thin striped socks don't go with it (fashion police alert!), reminds me of days gone by.
Oh, if you need a manager, there's a good one with the name of Flitcroft. Doing an excellent job up the road at Chorley FC!!!!

Highlights here
It's a soft penalty and maybe even a dive. It's also bad goalkeeping - he's come flying out and given the player a chance to go down & referee a chance to make the decision.
Good free kick from Danns though.

Lol at two goals for them from crosses.
Pen I've no idea from that video whether it was or wasn't.
Trotter involved heavily in the two best moves in those highlights. Pratley not so much.

Note Dervitte (calling it now, the new Cid, he's a fecking shocker) trying to clear the ball coming across him with his WRONG foot for their goal last night. Did he not do that Watford too? "Potential to be the best CB in the division" according to our feckless dingbat in charge. My Arse.
We look like a team built in the bargain free-transfer bin bag. Something has to click soon or we're for the chopping block.
As for Trotter and Pratley in centre mid. It was laughable. Trotter is Languid and Dogshit and Pratley is Busy and Lacking.
Bring back Franck Passi and Gaz Faz, all, ALL is forgiven.

Not being in a position to attend games I depend on the forum for updates and eye witness accounts from matches. Confused by Trotter reports. Some say he was ok and from the highlights, seems that way. You say otherwise. Should he start on on the weekend vs Forrest instead of Pratley or Medo? I think he can be a very strong player for us this season.Dr Hotdog wrote:Note Dervitte (calling it now, the new Cid, he's a fecking shocker) trying to clear the ball coming across him with his WRONG foot for their goal last night.
