We do seem to specialise in bringing 20ish year olds in then sending them packing again. Make much money on sell on clauses?
It's an entrepreneurial masterstroke, he might be a shit manager but he'd walk The Apprentice.

Seriously though, I don't think anyone was suggesting we don't sign lads like this, just that there's other more important news we are waiting to hear.

Hmmm, 2 goals in 19 starts, relegated. He'll fit right in.

Bit more about him in BN:

How od.

He may be God's gift for all we know and really, all the best to him and it's only £10k and he's a one for the future etc. but seems an odd one.

We've paid £10k to Pratley since Tuesday..

It's fvck all and if he turns out shite, who cares. It's fvck all.

Plus, we're crying out for a bit of genuine pace, which he supposedly has

He sounds like he's got his head screwed on, rare for a footballer, but this worries me:

"The manager Dougie Freedman sold Bolton to me and he has been top class.[...]He captured my attention instantly with his plans for me at Bolton. He is adamant that I will be involved and that if I work hard enough, and want it enough, the rewards will be there for me with minutes in the first team."

Hasn't Dougie said this to yoof we've signed before, including that midfielder from Southampton that we released? I wonder if Dougie's rumoured falling outs are to do with him saying one thing, then doing another :conf:

That didn't take long. Chips well and truly pissed on.

The bish said he wasn't involved though!

Do you reckon Dougie conveyed his message on folded up bits of A4 passed furtively across the classroom?

And how much more involvement does a manager need to have other than "hey you, footballer, do you want to come and play at my ace football club with shiny training facilities"?

As a manager Freedman will have a range of objectives. Some short term some long term. And he has to balance his time out accordingly.

I very much doubt a couple of hours talking to a young player makes any difference to our first team signings or preparation for Saturday.

I'd have thought that being able to convince young players that we are a good place to come over a premiership side was only a positive thing. It might be a small positive in the grand scheme of things and outweighed by a lot of other things but it is possible to acknowledge the positive without necessarily accepting other things......
