He'll have to get in the side first. Craig Davies will take some shifting.

Yes. Because his conversion rate is wonderful. Never misses sitters. And he runs around like a headless chicken. It doesn't matter that it produces nowt, he runs around desperately. And that's all that "making a contribution to the team" consists of.

Cravies can take a penalty and is being used in the Juke role to feed Mason something beckford cannot do and he takes a good penalty as well

Yes.

He feeds him grapes, regularly.

Although I think he plans to feed him to hungry dogs in the near future.

Such is life.

Well he holds the ball up and actually does something. If you took Davies out of the side that played Forest and Boro we'd look ten times worse. He was easily our best performer against Boro.

Is he going to score 30 a season? No. But then we haven't got anyone who will.

I know this is old fashioned and probably stupid - but I like at least one of my strikers on the pitch to be someone who does the goalscoring thing... even if he doesn't do the running around and the holding up the ball and the looking-good-in-a-new-haircut and the shouting a lot and the covering back to hang about aimlessly for corners and the puffing out his chest and the having-an-armful-of-fecking-tattoos...

And thus the Philliskirk vs Reeves debate is played out as Beckford vs C. Davies.

I may have said it before, but history repeats itself, the first time as tragedy, the second time as farce ...the nth time as utter indifference and apathy.

Beckford did start scoring last year and got dropped. Freedman does the opposite of inspiring his players leaving them short on confidence, then moans when fans get frustrated.
It's never his fault, seems totally unaware of his managerial shortcomings so he doesn't learn.

But your analogy doesn't work because Beckford bagged what - 9 goals last season. I don't see why Craig Davies can't get 9 goals. And do all the extras.

It would be valid if Beckford had at any point here looked like he would score 20 a season. Or had looked like converting a higher percentage of chances than Craig Davies. But he hasn't.

The argument you're putting forward is that we'd be better off having a goalscorer up there than a worker. Absolutely. But Beckford has shown no signs that he will be the goalscorer.

well - he scored two in a game this week (both from open play) - which is more than davies has done this week(or any week for us!)....

Yes, Beckford got 9 goals in, approximately, half a season. Before he was injured and then dropped.

So, spread that out - 18 goals in a season? Give or take.

So then the analogy is correct.

But! But, but, but. The analogy fits for all the other cases, but not mine, because mine is different, special, because, because, BECAUSE IT JUST IS! IT IS!!!

Yes, of course, bwfci, it just is different.

I can imagine in 20 years, you'll be having the same discussion. Arguing that run-around a lot striker X is better than supposedly lazy striker Y because he runs around a lot. And you'll be arguing that it isn't like Philliskirk vs Reeves or Beckford vs Davies, because it's different.

And I suspect that even fewer people will care then than care now. If that's possible.

According to Wikipedia Beckford made 36 appearances last season.

We aren't arguing over a John McGinlay or even a Klasnic.

Beckford hasn't scored anywhere near regularly enough or looked a threat enough to warrant his lack of other attributes. He's come nowhere near close.

Against Bury he missed two absolute sitters. And I mean sitters. Craig Davies comes on, scores a penalty and we win the game.

Craig Davies offers more as it stands.

To be perfectly honest I acknowledge Davies is limited. But so is Beckford, his first touch is absymal. He doesn't hold it up or bring others into play.

I don't think you're arguing about a goalscorer vs a worker, not on the evidence I've seen. If Beckford replicates his scoring record here that he did for Leeds a division lower I will completely buy into your argument. But he hasn't at ANY point looked like doing that or coming close.

To put this in a historical context, what we really need right now is Nathan Blake. Did feck all for 90 minutes. Until presented with one opportunity.

BWFCi is right, he is apparently a 'goalscorer', which is code for 'does feck all else', so he has to be clinical to make up for that and he is not. He misses too many chances.
I'm all for a 20-25 goal striker who does nothing else, but he isn't it (apart from the nothing else bit).
Decent manager might bring it out in him but he hasn't got one, and better managers have failed to.

Baptiste has decided he doesn't like us anymore. And that he is definitely a centre-half.
