Halliwell, Bolton born and bred, lived there till I was twenty, two years in Yorkshire, seven years back in Bolton, ( Halliwell and Elgin Street) 12 months in Daisy Hill, ten years in Westhoughton and thirty-five years in Farnworth where I still reside. Apart from the two years with the funny folk, never more than a bus ride from the heartland.KeyserSoze wrote:I thought you were a farnworth lad as well, tango? Illusions shattered!

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Dan, I bet Tango regularly drives through Horwich looking wistfully and longingly out of the window. Back on food; I did have a Spanish meal in Horwich a while back. Decent food and wine but a tad expensive for what it was. Always go the scenic route via Wingates and Blackrod mind.

Made Keyser's chicken jambalaya this evening. Much better with the additional stock in from the beginning. Went down a treat!

Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
Tonight, with visiting veggie friends, is curry night. My partner has made six different veggie curries, of varying degrees of sweet to sour, and mildly spiced, to 'try a half spoonful first and put an extra ice lump in your glass of water'.
To drink with the curry I'm opening a 2003 Rioja Gran Reserva some thoughtful person brought for the 60th birthday bash last Sunday... No idea who did that... But if you are reading this, thank you!
We're having popadoms and pickles from House of Raja as a starter. I think a chilled Albarino with that.

A 2014 Cobra is often worth a go too.

Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
Well, I'm not drinking again for a while. Just got back from three days at a mate's in the Kentish countryside. Spend two days without phone signal, and sporadic internet, drinking in country pubs and doing crosswords. It was ace, though I'm pretty sure my viscera are now viscous, and I may have forgotten my seven-times-table.
In a world that has decided
That it's going to lose its mind
Be more kind, my friends, try to be more kind.

Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
goulash tonight - with the smoked paprika! yum!
edit: it was, indeed, ace - and BONUS - being as it is mostly cabbage, carrots and courgettes with 'erbs and spices (apart from the large drizzle of soured cream I added on serving) - it is very, very, low-calorie - I must have had at least two portions and it barely dented my calorie allowance!

Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
Tonight was a return to the remains of last Friday's six veggie curries. Fab. Poss even better.
Ended with us combining the miniature remains of each into one bowl and having a couple of spoons of six-dish curry... This may become a new favourite... It really was good!
(Was a red Rioja again. Nigh on perfect).

Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
Went - a very enjoyable and convivial atmosphere with perfectly attentive and (not over) friendly staff. Very good steak / ribs / burgers etc. I had the 'Three Pigs' comprising a very meaty smoked sausage (or smoked dog if you're a bish-esque hipster dude) with pulled pork, bacon and onions ( I asked for them to hold the cheese, Ok, I said "without cheese please"). Came with a nice coleslaw in a light dressing. To the doubtless chagrin of Boris I had the 'Dirty Rice' which is just cagun vegetable rice with corriander. Couldn't finish it all.Bruce Rioja wrote:Next Wednesday. Cockadoodlemoo in Stockport. MEEEEEEEAT!!!!!!!

Girlie had the same but she had sweet potato fries. I nicked a couple. Oh Emm Gee. Wherever you see these things on a menu - order them. Absolutely fantastic.
I had a pint of diet coke and girlie had a bucket of chocolate milkshake.
Just under £30. Sorted.
If you're down Hazel Grove way and up for a meaty nosebag - get in there.

Never cook and eat a curry the same day, they are far better left till the following day or a couple of days later, they mature.William the White wrote:Tonight was a return to the remains of last Friday's six veggie curries. Fab. Poss even better.
