What are you playing tonight?

If you have a life outside of BWFC, then this is the place to tell us all about your toilet habits, and those bizarre fetishes.......

the Staves...

the missus has taken my car off to south wales and left me with her crappy little work lego-car... anyway - it does at least have a CD player in it - so - driving down to sidmouth today, I turned it on..

on came the Staves... I inwardly groaned as i have previously dismissed them out of hand..

but - after a proper listen - I have decided they are fab and am gonna have to eat humble pie when the missus gets back!

edit.. looking back, I see that i liked a staves track which i linked (youtube) on this very thread back in 2012!!

so - what I've done is discover them - quite like them - forget them - hear my missus playing them and dismiss them as rubbish - then later rediscover them and decide they are fab!

call me fickle! 8)

Personal taste of course, but I listened to their Silver Dagger. Can't compare with Joan Baez or Dolly Parton versions, for me. Did make me seek both versions out and listen to them on youtube though, so cheers for that.

This week I've been mostly re-falling in love with this, all over again :)

Tis a work of pure beauty - best reserved for those evenings when the only company you require is a bottle of wine.

^^

Not pretending I know much (anything ) about those and certainly not decrying them for that reason, but I seem to remember laughing at my lad's taste in band names back a ways, Prefab Sprout, Inspiral Carpets and his own name, James.

Drove back from Bristol to the tunes of Pearl Jam's classic album Ten. Particularly love this song, perfect showcase for Vedder's voice. What an amazing singer.

Just can't get "Over the hills and far away" out of my earhole. Foolishly learned the "Sharpe" version lyrics (or some of them) and started singing it (might not be called singing in the musical sense), now I can't shut it out....

First couple of listens of Annie Eve's debut album, Sunday '91. A perfectly pleasant listen but bar a couple of tracks none of it's unremarkable. However, it's bound to take additional listenings and further attention if it's going to reveal nuances - certainly more attention than me listening to it in the car going to work and back.

You're all bastards, do you hear? Reading this got a song playing in my mind, and that still hasn't left, of a tune I used to have on a CD years and years ago that contained the lyric "Over the hills and far away", and it's been bugging me as to who it was by.
Realising that it's not by anyone whose work I own I somehow deduced that it must've come with a free CD.
I've just had to track back through all listings on all the free CD's that I ever received from Q Magazine, and are were many, until I found the culprit.

It was a song called 'Over the Hills' (quelle surprise) by a band called Simian.

I feel assuaged now. Thank you. :)

Listening to Robert Plant's new album, 'Lullaby and ... The Ceaseless Roar' good on it's first listen but I loved his last to so it's fighting uphill.

A pre-planned Johnny Winter album of classic blues with lots of guests ... 'Johnny Winter - Step Back'

I am NOT listening to THIS ...

I feel I must apologise for the rash stupidity of the above comments. Sunday 91 by Annie Eve is a fecking masterpiece. 10 brilliantly crafted individual songs - I've fallen in love with each and every one of them. To give a WtW type appraisal - Hushed. Intense. Intelligent. Beautiful. She's playing at The Deaf Institute on 17th Oct - I need to check my diary. She's only 22. I own socks that are older than that!!!!

Echocord Jubilee Compilation - not a lyric in sight (or sound). Sumptuous!
