I had a run through the park last week. Never heard of Jolly Brows.

A good afternoon to you too, sir? It was enough of an effort to get Miss BP out of the house as it was. I've i'd suggested we visit some bloke from the internet, she'd still be in her bedroom!!

We always knew it as the Jolly Brows as kids. Spent lots of time over the other side from you. Cardboard Hill and Dead Mans Cliff. Many a happy day spent on there as a kid.

A lovely long bike ride. I'm starting to quite like it now, which is fortunate since we're off on a cycling holiday next weekend. Up to Bleakholt, walked all the poor orphan pooches then back home. Just short of 40 miles. A wonderful day

Where is Longsight Park? I lived in Harwood for a few years and am sure it wasn't there in my term of residence; then again, that was sixty years ago and I was eleven when I was carted out here. Perhaps it's a different Longsight?

I think it's near the golf course by Bradshaw Brook, but I'm not very sure. Not sure I've ever heard of Jolly Brows though.

Thanks, chaps. Jolly Brows, Cardboard Hill and Dead Man's Cliff are not contained within my memory bank (or not retained maybe). Still, I lived at the other end of the village and forays to the Bolton end were not common although I do recall fondly a couple of picnics with my family in The Jumbles where the water tumbled over a huge (to me) pile of jumbled rocks. Then again, I've learnt not to trust my childhood memories all that much. That 'revelation' came a few years ago when I found that for many years I'd managed to turn my image of Whitby and had the Abbey on the wrong side of the harbour.

It is a nice part of Bolton. In fitter days we used to run from Leverhulme Park through 7 Acres park then Longsight Park and up to the Jumbles and back. You can get into it via a path opposite Canon Slade School, Dujon.

i rode up past Bleakholt yesterday. saw all these nice people walking snarling bull terriers. went up scout moor from there, down waughs well then over into Lee Quarry for a lap and back over the top, Owd Betts descent and home through nuttal park. only about 30 miles though with 2600ft of climbing, which is pretty decent for off road. lovely day tho, beats working!

Sounds good. I love fell running but I don't think I'd ever have the bottle to take a bike with me on some of the descents round there.

Just went looking for some CD's at lunchtime. For some reason decided to look through the Feeder section (one of my favourite bands when I was about 14) despite knowing I had all their albums. Noticed something slightly odd about one of the copies of 'polythene' (their first and, in my opinion, best album). I then recognised it as a very rare version of the album, only available for a short time before it was re-issued with the single 'High' included. Was included in a 3 for £5 deal, but a quick look on ebay shows a copy going for about £50. I'm not sure if the completionist in me would sell it though. (End of nerdy post).

Fabulous trek ober Dartmoor today - winding up here at Spurrell's Cross before descending back to the car...

I'm making an effort to take advantage of the glorious awseomeness that is Dartmoor on my doorstep - it's fabulous - without that much effort you can feel like you are miles from anywhere and totally alone!
