But what happens when they bugger off and the balance and number of MPs for each part shifts in Parliament?CrazyHorse wrote:Of course they'll get a vote. They're voting for their local MP who'll be their representation until the formal split. Until that day it's still business as usual.

That'll be one of the five million things that'll need thrashing out between the vote and actual independence.

Hmmm. Shouldn't this sort of stuff have been thrashed out before the vote?CrazyHorse wrote:That'll be one of the five million things that'll need thrashing out between the vote and actual independence.

No, because then people would vote with better information. Who wants voters to be educated?Bruce Rioja wrote:Hmmm. Re: You take the high road...
The yes vote is winning

Re: You take the high road...
Still a very close thing.
The no voters are the quiet ones and letting the yessers be the gobshites.
The further north the more support for the yes.

George Osborne making more of a dick of himself than usual. "We'll give the Scots more powers if they vote no". It smacks of desperation and is hardly likely to sway the uncertain in their favour

Yeah, I thought that too. In fact I'd probably be more convinced to vote Yes as I'd believe Westminster was holding back on me.

That is worrying and something to be avoided.Harry Genshaw wrote:George Osborne making more of a dick of himself than usual. "We'll give the Scots more powers if they vote no". It smacks of desperation and is hardly likely to sway the uncertain in their favour
Do not want them to stay and the rUK to take a tough line with them ie passports, border controls, tax duties, etc. move the warship order from the Clyde down south withdraw all defence force bases, do a deal with the Yanks to temp house our nuke sub fleet, develope the North East to deal with the oil.
We could enjoy more employment as business moves sout of the border so we can give Rob Roy the finger big time

Re: You take the high road...
In the BBC Magazine they write about Quebec's two referendums on independence. It is said:
This is true. Our two referendums were never about independence because the sovereigntists knew they would lose a hard question. The 1980 question was so soft that independence could not come as a result - it would require another referendum following negotiations with Canada. It read:A key difference between Scotland and Quebec is the simplicity of the six-word question posed in the referendum: "Should Scotland be an independent country?" In 1995, Quebecers faced a 43-word question that many voters found incomprehensible. In 1980, it ran to a riddle-like 106.
We said "No" anyway. The Government of Quebec has made public its proposal to negotiate a new agreement with the rest of Canada, based on the equality of nations; this agreement would enable Quebec to acquire the exclusive power to make its laws, levy its taxes and establish relations abroad - in other words, sovereignty - and at the same time to maintain with Canada an economic association including a common currency; any change in political status resulting from these negotiations will only be implemented with popular approval through another referendum; on these terms, do you give the Government of Quebec the mandate to negotiate the proposed agreement between Quebec and Canada?

Oh well. That'll be that then. Dizzy the HR disaster's just been in and contributed to the debate thus;
"I hope the Scots don't vote for independence"
"Oh really, Dizzy? And why's that?"
"Well, because we'll probably have to change the flag and out of all the flags we definitely have the nicest one".
I shit you not.

Have they gone yet?
Re: You take the high road...
I'm conflicted on this...
emotionally/childishly - I'd like to see Salmond's fat smug grin wiped off his face - and I can't stand the prospect of his posturing and grand-standing should the YES campaign win - it will be truly sickening!!
but...
1) I don't want to see Scots given a massive reward in terms of a grossly unfair (in comparison to the rest of the UK) settlement should they vote NO (which I think they would be)
2) I would despair at the almost guaranteed TORY outright majority and what that would do to those of us that remain...

I cannot believe you'd be happy with the alternatives, Milli 'boy' Band or feckin' Clegg! 'cause I don't have you down for a UKIP voter

Re: You take the high road...
i'd pick Milliband over Osborne (the one who's really running the show) any day of the week and back again...

The government should concentrate on the English for once, its about time we stopped subsidising the jocks, we should be taking powers off them to create a fairer Britain not offering them more.

If they want to let them go? Isn't that, erm, what they are doing.
And why should the govt concentrate on the English? It should concentrate on all Britons.
I do share the concerns that there'll be some capitulation even if it's a 'no' vote. The focus should be making sure it's fair. If Scots would then rather go it alone, good luck to them.
