And why should the govt concentrate on the English? It should concentrate on all the remaining Britons.
I do share the concerns that there'll be some capitulation even if it's a 'no' vote. The focus should be making sure it's fair. If Scots would then rather go it alone, good luck to them.

Which, as I type, includes the Scots.

Forgive me, but I'm pretty certain that the whole idea of a referendum is to do exactly that. Or are we expecting Alex Salmond to emerge from behind the ballot box as The Hooded Claw vowing to get us "next time??Peter Thompson wrote:

And bish, to be truthful, I see some merit in the bending-over backwards politicking that will happen should Scotland stay by a whisker. What's sauce for the goose and all that. I doubt they'll be able to enable social and economic reforms within Scotland without applying some to the UK as a whole. An incredibly narrow victory by the no campaign has untold benefits.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

If the vote was only taking place at my work then from what I can tell the No campaign would win at a canter. But then that might because we're a fairly well-informed, cosmopolitan bunch.Lord Kangana wrote:An incredibly narrow victory by the no campaign has untold benefits.
The trouble is the No campaign has been half-assed from the very start. I can't recall the last time they pushed anything through the letter box other than some official stuff from HM's government. It doesn't help that the Tories/Labour/LibDems up here loathe each other. I suspect that has also contributed to their campaign's disorganisation and complacency.
That doesn't mean to say that the Yes campaign should win the day. I'm hoping that before making their mark that each voter weighs up whether the system here is really that broken that they want to tear the whole thing up (it isn't) in order to replace it with something that is laced with so much uncertainty that the supporters of it can't give a straight answer as to how something as basic as a currency is going to be administered. (If they're intending to adopt/shadow Sterling then there'll be no one in Scotland doing that.)

No it's not and you know it, Milli 'boy' band couldn't run a p*ss up in a brewery without the sinister wing of the unions calling the shots.thebish wrote:is that really your yardstick?? elect a bloke who demonstrates some kind of prowess at eating sandwiches??Hoboh wrote:The bloke cannot even eat a bacon butty!!! Anyway apart from a few minor tinkerings around the edges just what has he proposed that is so different from the Tories?
As for the Scots;
No central bank, no currency plans, big employers ready to pull out, the oil is UK oil not Scottish, No auto EU membership, if and a big if they get it, open borders forcing the English to introduce strict controls, the dreaded Euro, no one to bail them out!
Salmond is to Scotland what Clegg would be to the English, a feckin' disaster.

Anyone else sick to death of the tail trying to wag the dog? 5.3 million population receiving £1,200 per person more than anywhere else in the UK thinking they can leave on their terms and the feckin' idiots we have running the show offering them more? Please do me a favour!

I have some bad news for you Hobes. The Bank of England would still be lender of last resort during transition. Should there be a run on Scottish Banks after a yes vote, then BoE would post bail.Hoboh wrote:Only for a few days longer, I hope.Prufrock wrote:Which, as I type, includes the Scots.

Besides if they vote yes we will just have to annexe them, Vlad can give us advice

Seriously yes they will because of stupid, wet, no balls, so called leaders.
The referendum should have been you go we want 6 months to clear out, or stick your referedum up your tight scottish ass!

There is always another side to every equation, sweaties pay on average £2k per head per annum more in tax than England, which sorta covers the handback difference and then some.Hoboh wrote:Not when the English voter realises the Jocks are taking us for a ride May 2015 has yet to come.Worthy4England wrote:I have some bad news for you Hobes. Hoboh - You'll probably know the answer to this. If Scotland votes yes - where does that leave Ukip?

On the bright side, if the Yes wins you may be able to deport Owen Coyle and Dougie...
