I suspect the chemicals have destroyed your taste budsboltonboris wrote:Chemicals = tasteAbdoulaye's Twin wrote:It's not really an effort to cut a slice of cheese and chilli? I do prefer proper cheese, but when the BBQ'son, the suns out and you're just sticking shit on a bun, I find there's little difference in taste when your putting it on a burger

Ah, but I prefer to make my own burgers as opposed to simply sticking 'shit on a bun'. I think now we're getting to the nub of it here.boltonboris wrote:I do prefer proper cheese, but when the BBQ'son, the suns out and you're just sticking shit on a bun, I find there's little difference in taste when your putting it on a burger

I'm different. My burgers are made from home made minced beef, fresh onion and my own seasoning mix. The rolls are home made, ketchup is heinz and cheese whatever non-American I can find here. They're good, better than any pre-made packaged stuff and healthier.boltonboris wrote:I do prefer proper cheese, but when the BBQ'son, the suns out and you're just sticking shit on a bun, I find there's little difference in taste when your putting it on a burger

It's a thin spread to complement the burger. You see, home made ones actually taste of somethingTANGODANCER wrote:And all you can really taste is a mouthful of Heinz ketchup...Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:I'm different. Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
Just had lunch in the garden. On a lounger. Three chapters into one of my newly acquired Booker shortlist - Karen joy Fowler's We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves. It's hilarious, laugh out loud funny.
Lunch was wholemeal roll with ham, cheese and home made chutney. Chutney world here atm. Too many tomatoes to eat otherwise. Went nicely with a mug of Lapsang Souchong.
Such a hard life retired...

Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
just had a three-bean slow-cooker chilli that Bruce gave me the recipe for!
yum! - it did turn out quite HOT... so i made a bowl of yoghurty-coriander for people to add to tone it down slightly...
still a triumph, though - it had black beans in it - which I don't think I have ever used before...
and - being slow cooker - it filled the house with glorious cooking small all day!
slow cookers are ace - you just leave it - and at the end of the day there's your tea!

Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
Glad you enjoyed it, bish.
Yes, it comes out right on the limit of my hotness chart so I used soured cream to calm it down.
Have had three BIG bowls of it up to now with enough to take for lunch tomorrow.
I didn't expect to be able to buy black beans as I'd never heard of them either - turns out Morrisons have loads of them in.

Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
We don't travel far these days but tonight we were going out with grandson, grand-daughter and partners and our little great grandson for a meal. Due to the little fella being a bit off it got cancelled till another day. As the wife hadn't prepared anything for tea we decided to take the advice of neighbours and visit The King's Arms on Plodder lane.
What a revelation. This was the old Canary, which would have given most Dodge City pubs a decent run. Now, fully refurbished inside and out it is a really decent venue as a small hotel with bed and breakfast on offer. Spotlessly clean decor and furniture wise,it is a really pleasant venue with a dining room and beer garden. We had the late Sunday lunch, just managing to get there in time for 4-30 last orders. Wife had a French Onion soup starter and I had prawn cocktail. Both served with crusty granary brown bread and butter. Both served tidyly on neat square plates .
She chose the roast beef, mashed potatoes, Yorkshire pudding (large and fresh, none of the Asda packet stuff), and me the roast lamb. The meat for both was sliced and plentiful and on a bed of mashed potatoes with roasties on the side, with a nice stock gravy and side veg of brocolli and carrots, hers with a cauliflower cheese dish. Again, nicely served on square dishes with James Martin style drizzled sauce trails. Add a large glass of Medium sweet white wine and a pint of Speckled Hen, £25 the lot and it was really nice and good value. If you have to be in Farnworth you could do a lot worse.
Edited the cost, sorry it was £20 the meal and a fiver the drinks. £25 total. Apologies.

Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
Tonight - home made salmon fishcakes (wife made), roast potatoes and parsnip, squash, french beans from garden.
Viognier likely.
Burgundy possible.
Cheese. A little Sauternes.
