did anyone else notice in his admission-of-defeat speech that he said summat like "Scotland has voted not to become an Independant country at this stage." he slipped that one in!!
The Better Together campaign have been FAR more gracious in victory than Salmond ever would have been - He would have been on an open top bus draped in the Saltire touring the whole of scotland with his troops face-painted saltire-blue, flag-waving... there will be none of that from the Better Together campaign (They are more rerstrained than I would have been - I would have had union-flag painted open-top busses all over scotland playing the national anthem - the real one!!!)
yet - I was impressed with Johann Lamont this morning - who went out of her way to say how all of scotland should admire Salmond for the way he has tirelessly fought for the opportunity to put this question democratically to the scottish people all his political life. she didn't need to do that - and he certainly would not have taken the time to praise her if the boot had been on the other foot....
(salmond didn't even win in his own consituency...)

Anyhow, can we get back to not pretending we like Andy Murray now?

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

According to The Guardian he's been banning newspapers from the press conference and trying to hand pick which reporters can attend. I also notice that he has had to consider who takes over from him rather than the party choosing their leader. He really is an arrogant nice person.

Thought he'd go when they lost. Surprised it's this soon though.
And it won't change what the SNP say from that mentioned above.

he is a BIG part of the SNP's recent rise.. it will be interesting to see how they manage without him... especially following this trumping loss for scottish nationalism and the potential for infighting and disagreement over how/whether to cooperate with cameron and co...

He is, but he's been Leader for 20 years...During which they've gone from a one-trick pony to being the party running their devolved country, which is great, but in 20 years, he still hasn't managed to convince 55% of the population that they'd be better off without us.thebish wrote:Prufrock wrote:Thought he'd go when they lost. Anyhow, time to send Murray next year's invite to the All England Club's open tennis tournament.

'Yes' voters in Glasgow give their reaction to the result....
In the cold dawn, fingers of blame were being pointed: at the British establishment, big business, and the media, in particular the BBC.
"I feel the press and the BBC have let us down because they didn't tell us the truth," said Sheena Jardine, 46 a violinist, echoing a familiar refrain from "Yes" campaigners.
Journalists had bombarded the voters with "propaganda" she went on, telling only one side of the story and "not showing all the amazing things that could have happened if we'd been independent."
"If we'd had a balanced debate we would have won this and it's such a sad missed opportunity. I feel absolutely gutted," she said.

I've been through this before in my province. Last time the will of the Francophones was thwarted by "Money and the Ethnic vote." I wasn't sure whether I counted as money or an ethnic - perhaps both. These ideologues have to find sinister reasons why their universe did not unfold as they expected it to.Prufrock wrote:

Re: You take the high road...
I really do have mixed feelings about this. If I'd been living in Scotland I'd definitely have voted 'yes'.
But, selfishly, I really wanted to keep those 41 Labour MPs in the House of Commons.
I note the Tories and others are, ironically, getting into a lather about constitutional reform in the rest of the UK. I think the debate has to be held.
But I don't think our politicians have the right to take the decision. That HAS to go to an English referendum if there is any question of anything like an 'English Parliament' being mooted. And that means it can't take place at the same time as the changes promised to the Scots before the referendum. Cameron needs to be stopped if he tries to insist on this.
