Watched Vanilla Sky last night.
I thought it were all right, which given I can't stand Tom Cruise is probably the best it could hope for

The original, 'Abre los Ojos' is much better but as they both feature the utterly, utterly delectable Penelope Cruz you get your money's worth anyway.

Tell you what I did watch some of last night - something about the history of grand prix racing and how utterly barbaric the whole thing was up until about 1976. Utter, utter fecking madness with basically zero safety measures anywhere on the tracks and lots of solid objects to crash into.

'76 was Lauda V Hunt? That was a great contest...I was only 10, but remember it well.Bruce Rioja wrote:Tell you what I did watch some of last night - something about the history of grand prix racing and how utterly barbaric the whole thing was up until about 1976. I think the whole ethos has changed somewhat - the idea was that you went as fast as you wanted to safely and some folks pushed it too far, rather than nowadays where it's getting more like Indycar and the whole ethos to be go as fast as the car can carry you.

Been watching John Oliver's new show on HBO for the last couple of months. Been waiting for this clip to make its way onto the interweb

Love that guy. Dig out his one on FIFA and the world cup if you haven't seen it. Absolutely tremendous - bang on the money and piss funny.

Watched Jason Statham, Robert De Niro and Clive Owen in Killer Elite. The film is based on Ranulph Feiness's book The Feathermen a supposedly true story which I read years ago. A mate of my brothers (they were in the paras together) made a copy of the book disappear from Bolton library. He swore blind he'd taken it back.

the Fault In Our Stars: I like watching films that supposedly guaranteed to make you cry, I like to test them. I've never seen owt that has caused all out sobs, but plenty where I've caught myself wiping the corner of my eye; this was the toughest so far by a mile, no sobs but definite glubs of tear at times! The film itself is a bit too sickly sweet at times but you can't help grow to love the characters and watching what they're going through, especially as a parent is heartbreaking. Powerful emotional stuff. Must see.

Watched "Transformers: Age of extinction" last night, wish I hadnt fecking bothered. Even the usually excellent Stanley Tucci couldn't save this wreck of a film. It couldve been so good with the Dinobots (good memories of my childhood) but yet again Michael "fecking" Bay, just decides to throw them in 20minutes from the end if the film with no explanation as to how they got there

Just back from Saturday morning kids club at Cineworld, watched Maleficent with Angelina Jolie. Really interesting and well-made retelling of the Sleeping Beauty story. Jolie is excellent and my nephew kept asking if I fancied her. Couldn't tell a lie.

Watched Daniel Craig in the partizan drama Defiance. Not seen it previously and didn't realise it had been out since 2008.
