Then again, I'd like to see him go more than a lot of things.
So would I, Bobey baby, so would I. Doesn't mean I think everything he does is wrong.

Putting the kids out for a very public f*cking at Chelsea would not, IMO, do them or us any good. Mature fringe players like Pratley, Beckford, Kenny, Medo - fine, they're big and ugly enough to cope and should be itching to prove their case.
Which, in fairness D.S.B, they should be doing every game, not just cup ties.

Yes, they bloody well should.

Although Kenny hasn't played yet, Medo hasn't started a game in three weeks, Beckford hasn't started a league game this season.

I've said this a million times but surely it's got to be better to have 'Wanderers' players than a bunch of tw*ts who can't get in at Palace.

How must players feel if they're in training every day only to see someone roll up and walk straight into the role of penalty missing bastard?

Freedman is a tit.
Yes to this. Was it two seasons back when Vela was clearly our best player in the Cup v Everton? Injuries aside, what chance has he been given since then?

None whatsoever .... loaned to Notts County last season where he was man of the match several times.

DSB - don't get me wrong. I'd never expose them in a match very Chelsea but Bury at home, Crewe away ... and the bench as we struggle this season.are not too much to ask.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

I've thought Vela looks ok when I've seen him. Why on earth you'd pick Pratley over him makes no sense whatsoever.

Shadow sides getting dicked has always happened. Allardyce's second string got turned over at home by Bury, and we never saw Akin Bulent again.

For the record, I agree that Vela and possibly others should have appeared vs Bury and Crewe. That said, against Bury we started with Threlkeld, Wilkinson and Hall (if you count him as a kid), with White and Clough on the bench to get experience if possible. It wasn't possible, because we didn't score until the 90th minute, by which time Hall and Wilkinson had been sacrificed for Chungy and goalscorer Cravies.

Threlkeld, Wilkinson and Lester also started at Crewe. Chuck in many more kids than that and we might not have survived against shit teams. Which is of course partly the manager's fault, etc, but it's not like he hasn't given yoot a chance in the cups... just not Vela. We don't know why, but it may be that Vela is trying to establish himself in a position where we have a lot of competition, especially compared to full-back and striker.

Correction. Bulent Akin did play for Bolton again after that Bury defeat, but only twice.

For the ages, here's the team that lost at home to Bury. Ah, memories.
K Poole, B Mendy, David Holdsworth, D Livesey, J Smith, J Johnson, I Campo, S Tofting, B Akin, J Walters, C Armstrong

Well no, and I know to what you refer, but he also hung around a long time not being in the team. Just saying he was fringe, is all.

Absolutely.. Which is why he was bombed in favour of a bloke we only had on loan who's International manager referred to Bolton as "the arsehole of the world"

<adopts mock hysteric tone> What kind of manager would favour loanees?

Ah, Mendy. Think I've said this before but a greyhound of a footballer. Fast, stupid, ran round in circles. But I suppose his raw pace did help a team whose frontline was being led by Henrik Pedersen.

Bulent was one of Sam's hunches which didn't work out I guess.

Only 36 even today. He had a 12 year career in which he only played 164 first class matches. This is stolen from Wiki. There are 2 clubs where there are no records but I think it's fair to assume they wouldn't change the statistics much.

1999–2000 Denizlispor 30 (1 goal)
2000–2002 Galatasaray 32 (2)
2002–2003 Bolton Wanderers 1 (0)
2003 Akçaabat Sebatspor ? (?)
2003–2004 Gençlerbirliği 10 (0)
2004–2007 Malatyaspor 56 (3)
2007–2008 Türk Telekomspor ? (?)
2008 İstanbulspor 9 (0)
2008–2009 MVV 26 (1)
2010–2011 Yeni Malatyaspor 0 (0)
Total 164 (7 goals)

He was a nutter.

Mendy scored his only goal in a Bolton shirt in that Bury game!

Mendy was a joy to watch. Give him the ball and just watch the man run. Usually miles out of position but it was nice to see genuine pace that made the opposition worry.

I remember when Bernard Mendy here him complaining about the weather, or not liking living in the area, something like that. Have to say I was a little surprised when he then turned up at Hull.

Doesn't it rain less in Hull?

Anyway, Big Sam had some stats that said about 50% of our goals came directly from good work by Mendy/Gardner in the second half of that season. I remember he started off atrociously, but then got moved from fullback in a flat back four (my memory plays tricks, did we play 5 at the back with wing backs later in the season, or was he just moved forward to midfield?)
