Seems it didn't fully work on this occasion.Bruce Rioja wrote:Keep's the lumpen proletariat away.LeverEnd wrote:Night out in Harrogate last night, very unimpressed. Pretentious and overpriced.
Dan, add it to the list.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: Where are you going tonight?
it was the press night of Jouneys End at the Octagon tonight.
A real proper traditional play given an outstanding production. Powerful and moving.
Really should be seen.
Six of this cast start work on my play tomorrow. I'm so pleased that we have a cast as good as this.

Booked to see Journeys End on Thursday. Given the amount of seats I was given to choose from I'm guessing that tickets for this one are not a hot cake, which is a shame really.

Go and see Journey's End. Absolutely superb. Some really strong performances, especially from the guy playing Stanhope who was absolutely immense. Go and see it as a nice warmer-upper ahead of Early One Morning.

Agreed, excellent play that I read and remember enjoying at school 25 years ago. Perfect balance of gallows humour, drama and tragedy. The characters are well written, were brilliantly portrayed and gave realistic psychological insight. Apparently Sheriff based it on his own experiences and that shows.

Globe tonight for Julius Caesar at £5 a pop. Don't mind if I do.

It's excellent, isn't it? A real traditional play with a strong, strong cast that knows what it's doing.
Just spotted this link from Octagon website.

Well Riot Fest in Chicago was a bit good! And Chicago itself is a top-class destination.
I hate to be back.

Re: What are you going to tonight?
In order of preference:
Failure
Patti Smith
Jane's Addiction
Hot Snakes (aslo saw them the night before they played the festival in the Empty Bottle (sized comparably with the Roadhouse, roughly))
Primus
Weezer
Television (late addition to the bill)
Lemuria
Buzzcocks
Andrew WK
Gwar
Kurt Vile & the Violators
Mastodon
The Offspring
Missed the following acts due to clashes in the timetable:
Slayer (clashed with Janes)
Clutch (clashed with Failure - GUTTED!)
Mudhoney (clashed with Patti Smith)
Watched a bit of Cheap Trick on the ferris wheel facing their stage - that was good!
Overheard Billy Bragg on the mainstage as I was mooching from stage to stage, horrid accent.
In addition to the festival we saw an incredible Magritte exhibition at the Art Institute of Chicago. They also host American Gothic by Grant Wood but unfortunately that wasn't on display (booo!) and Ed Hopper's Nighthawks - which was a nice surprise. There was a bit of work by Frida Kahlo at the Museum of Contemporary Art. In addition we went to a Disney exhibition at the MOSI (way out of town) for the girls and the Adler Planetarium where we flew a rocket to the moon. Saw the city at night from the 94th floor of the John Hancock observatory tower - arrived slightly too late to catch the sunset which was a bit disappointing.
Loads of fun. Would go back! The Art Institute was stunning - could have spent all day in there!

When you say '£5 a pop', does that mean the audience gets to have a stab at him, too?Prufrock wrote:Globe tonight for Julius Caesar at £5 a pop. Don't mind if I do.
Et tu, tu, tu, tu, et even tu from Bolton..?
Re: What are you going to tonight?
Ha! Was fab. Rare you can pay as much for your half time pint as for the ticket and only be a bit miffed. Bet certain lines weren't drowned out by passing aeroplanes back in the day though.

One for Tango here. Well, actually, how many can say that they haven't crawled out of this building at some time?

Re: What are you going to tonight?
Cheers for that Bruce. A restaurant hey, how are the mighty fallen. But they can't take the memories away and there were a lot of them. I knew the two people mentioned in the article, Alan Mort ( an ex-para, who was in the Palais Rock and Roll team when I was) changed his name to Mort Alan and became a well-known compere. Sadly, he died a couple of years ago. Bill Bohannan owned the tragic Top Storey club that was wiped out in a fire with loss of life for 19 souls including his first wife. He also died a year ago. Makes you realise we're all on the time machine.Bruce Rioja wrote:One for Tango here. Well, actually, how many can say that they haven't crawled out of this building at some time?
