Also, your blood is thicker in the morning, so the risk of a heart attack is greater. (I think).
Re: The athletics/running thread
^THIS!! you only have to read 10mins worth of the MFP forums to realise that equal number of people hold 7 different contrasting theories about fitness and weight-loss to be true - all of them (allegedly) totally proven by "science"..Bruce Rioja wrote:thebish wrote:sets you up for the day (or so I'm told!)Bruce Rioja wrote:Now here's a revelation. Running first thing in the morning is easier than it is in the evening. Or is that just me? I can go to work feeling all better about myself now.#pious

giood job - firmly in that saddle - Laura would be proud!
Now then, talking to Our Kid on the way in and he said that he finds running first thing to be more difficult, which he attributes to a lack of blood sugar. However, he also pointed out that it's better for burning off fat for the same reason. I never know what to believe as there appears to be corroborative support for every single contrasting opinion that there's ever been on any part of it.
there are SO many myths and exaggerations around in the fitness & weight-loss world - you never really know WHAT to believe!!

Just got up and got on with it. Not sure if a bit of what made it easier was me being annoyed with myself about giving up on it last night though.Prufrock wrote:I find it really tough. How are you doing it: get up and go straight out, or get up, breakfast, wait a bit, then go?

Indeed. So I'm just sticking with eat less / properly, and move around more.thebish wrote: there are SO many myths and exaggerations around in the fitness & weight-loss world - you never really know WHAT to believe!!

Fair enough! I know some people who love it, and some people like me who can't hack it. I just have no puff. Sounds good to get on with itBruce Rioja wrote:Just got up and got on with it. aye - out fiddly beyond that, I simply ignore!
Re: The athletics/running thread
I suspect that running early in the morning has a psychological good-effect for some people simply because the day is new and bursting with possibility - it feels fresh and unspoiled - and this somehow feels different to running at the end of the day when it feels tired and old...

Re: The athletics/running thread
I can well go along with that. I try to explain to people that leaving the house for early flights and whatnot brings its own joy in being first to get at the day. Standing on the drive breathing in the fresh of the early morning. Wonderful stuff.

It's a common dilemma. You don't really want to be running straight after eating breakfast but if yiu wait the recommended 90 minutes/ 2 hours after eating, you could be getting up around 4am!Prufrock wrote:I find it really tough. personally I gauge it on how far I'm going and whether I had any late night carbs. 3 or 4 miles on no breakfast shouldn't be a problem. My main concern at running in the early morning is falling asleep at work later on!

Re: The athletics/running thread
I had my best spell as a runner when running in the morning, though I was a keen 20 something and ran evenings as well. Always found the morning really tough but got a buzz out of getting through it. Made me feel virtuous and toughened me up I reckon. Shame there are no vestiges of virtue or toughness left in me! Just vice and moral degradation.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Been to the docs this evening as I've had a niggling tightness in my lower calf/Achilles over the last month, which has contributed to my lack of running. I tend to limp around the office for 3-4 days after each run. She's making me an appointment for an ultrasound on it. The other one has started to give me gip tonight. I'm guessing that the 25th is looking pretty doubtful. Gutted!

So, according to Pikey +, this week I've done;
Mon: 2K
Tue: 3K
Wed: 3.6K
Thu: 4K
Suppose I'd better do 4.5 tomorrow then! Especially as I'm off to El Rincon afterwards.
What the bollocks is 'Nike Fuel' btw?
Mon: 2K

Oh mate. That's bad news. Hope you get it sorted though.Burnden Paddock wrote:Been to the docs this evening as I've had a niggling tightness in my lower calf/Achilles over the last month, which has contributed to my lack of running. pretty impressive!!
today I have done 30mins on the cross-trainer (whilst watching Homes under the Hammer) - 50 abdominal crunches (will do another 50 before bed) - and over an hour kayaking in quite bouncy seas! I reckon that's a pretty decent day's full body workout!
the kakyaking is ace for upper-body - shoulders/arms/chest - probably abs too...
am contemplating a day's kayak expedition all the way to Teignmouth and back - at the moment it looks a feck long way to paddle at my pace!!

Pretty decent? I'd say that that's a proper good do is that. Well in, Sir.

and - with stunning sunset scenery all around - it doesn't really feel like exercise - well - not at the time...Bruce Rioja wrote:Pretty decent? I'd say that that's a proper good do is that. Well in, Sir.

Cheers mate. Apparently they do them in the community and into the evenings, which should mean a relatively quick appointment close to home. Had to give it 2 weeks rest before this week and with a bit more rest and the benefit of a scan, who knows? Still up for coming down to watch and the rest of the day that we had planned, if you are!Bruce Rioja wrote:Oh mate. That's bad news. Re: The athletics/running thread
Well I'm still on track to do the run, so long as I can avoid injury or lurgy, but it's looking increasingly like there's only me doing it now, less Harry's still up for it? But yeah, I'm deffo up for it.Burnden Paddock wrote:Cheers mate. Apparently they do them in the community and into the evenings, which should mean a relatively quick appointment close to home. Unlucky BP. I have calcification on my achilles, the only relief I've found has been less road running. All being well though I'm up for the park run on the 18th. Hope you make it fella
