Re: Next Up - Freeman's Replacement
Agree with Tom's assessments there although I rate Hughton a bit higher than Tom does.
Particularly good point about Mackay at Watford, although he might argue he's learned since then.

Strangely enough, Mowbray has shortened on every market he's offered in....seems to be the current favourite at the bookies..

I'd genuinely rather have Coyle back or have stuck with Freedman than go with Brown.

David Dickinson for Bolton manager!

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Hughton's failure at Norwich (given his record elsewhere) seems puzzling. You'd have thought it was a match made in heaven - family club, but big enough to survive and a rep for being a footballing side.
That (rather large) blip aside though, he'd be my choice if the shortlist is correct.

they tried too hard to grow too fast. Spent more money than they should.EverSoYouri wrote:Hughton's failure at Norwich (given his record elsewhere) seems puzzling. You'd have thought it was a match made in heaven - family club, but big enough to survive and a rep for being a footballing side.

Biggest worry with that alleged shortlist (besides the fact they may expect Premier League players, wage structure, transfer targets) is that if they do well - by which I mean keeping us up this season and next - they'll be off in two years and we start all over again.

Well, they say the customer's always right...Peter Thompson wrote:I'd settle for any of those or Mowbray, in fact any of those would probably tempt me back to the Macron.Worthy4England wrote:Oracle update...
Seems to think Mixu and Mowbray not in the frame. Seems to be narrowing it down to:
Mackay
Lennon
Clarke
Hughton
Whilst understanding the reservations people have about MacKay and Lennon (I too have some reservations about both). And Clarke hasn't actually been "at it" that long as a Manager...I could probably just about live with any of the four (if indeed it's from that four that we're going to pick)

Guess it's always liable to end in tears when you sign a descendant of Rip van Winkel as your star striker.

Not sure Hughton would bugger off, but even if he did, Andy Hughes might be primed and ready by then (talk about making big calls from small evidence!

I hope so - then we can prepare the "Hughton - we have a problem" banners!

Re: Next Up - Freeman's Replacement
Really unsure about Lennon. I just don't know if he's the right guy to get us out of this mess whilst getting the fans back onside and working on a budget.
I don't fancy Mowbray either.

I keep coming back to the feelings of the past year or so ... "... anyone instead of Freedman".

Re: Next Up - Freeman's Replacement
Are folk really talking about Andy Hughes as a future manager of Bolton!
Or am I dreaming.
Maybe I just misread something.
I'd like to see us appoint someone that's familiar with running on fumes. The club's cut it's wage bill by the best part of twenty million over the last two years and I can't see that process being reversed any time soon. Someone like Liam Daish, he can get a quart out of a pint pot.
There's something I don't like about that Mourinho.

Yes. You misread.Enoch wrote:Are folk really talking about Andy Hughes as a future manager of Bolton!

I said I was very impressed by his manner and his demeanor and that one day if that was the real him he could do well in future years. I stressed that this was on very little knowledge of him and impressions taken on one instance.
Now .... we've lost Mr F ... celebrate my man.

I would love Pulis or McKay but I think you'll find that most of the 'better' managers will be holding out for when Pardew gets the sack up at Newcastle.
