I tend to limp around the office for 3-4 days after each run. She's making me an appointment for an ultrasound on it. The other one has started to give me gip tonight. I'm guessing that the 25th is looking pretty doubtful. Gutted!
one might start to get suspicious that ALL of the competition has now been nobbled in some way....

Cheers Harry. I'll see what they say when I go for the scan and take it from there. Getting really pissed off now as my left knee has started to give me gip. I'm aHarry Genshaw wrote:Unlucky BP. I have calcification on my achilles, the only relief I've found has been less road running. All being well though I'm up for the park run on the 18th. Hope you make it fella

Not particularly. The fingers crossed was more to do with my being fit to join Bruce and Harry at the parkrun on the 25th tbh. Although Harry's calcification of the Achilles has given me food for thought.thebish wrote:Burnden Paddock wrote:Scan on Monday. Fingers crossed!

Aye, good luck BP. If you over pronate as I do, then the right trainers with support will help. I found Sweatshop at Chorley to be pretty helpful with diagnosis and good recommendations. Tobbutts may be a good shout too.
My first track session in ages tonight & one of the ones I hate. 8 minutes of running with 90 seconds recovery. 4 sets. Pleased to get through it

Is there a scenario you fear?Internet diagnosis (yes, I know!) suggests overpronation which can be corrected with the right trainers. We'll see. Thanks for the good wishes btw!
How did you get on?
After 5 weeks of 'resting' my consultant has decided surgery is required. Booking in for the beginning of November today for the op.

4 to 6 weeks recovery and then I may/ should be back in full training. End of October's definitely out. Sorry guys.

that doesn't sound good. sorry to hear thatGary the Enfield wrote: After 5 weeks of 'resting' my consultant has decided surgery is required.

since you became serious about running - what's the longest you've had to stop for? How quickly/slowly do you start to lose the condition you once had and does it take long to regain it?

It takes about two weeks to lose your peak fitness but longer for the core. If you stop completely it will obviously taper off more quickly.thebish wrote:that doesn't sound good. sorry to hear thatGary the Enfield wrote: After 5 weeks of 'resting' my consultant has decided surgery is required.

The longest I went last time was when I had a fractured Sacrum (didn't know at the time) whilst training for the 2012 Marathon (London). I stopped running for six weeks which coincided with Christmas and I wasn't doing any other exercise.
From scratch it took weeks to recover and, two weeks before the race, I'd only run one decent distance of 16 miles. That's probably why I only managed 4hrs 30mins on the day.
This is (hopefully) different. I can swim and cycle without putting any pressure on the joint. If he (the surgeon) has to cut away a section of the meniscus then I will be back to work within two weeks and running again within 5 to 6.
Just need to up my swimming/ cycling and keep the weight down in the meantime.
Re: The athletics/running thread
it certainly sounds like a good thing that you expanded your repertoire into the triathlon... I know it's frustrating for you now - but I guess you'd be growing a beard and watching Jeremy Kyle if it weren't for the cycling and swimming...Gary the Enfield wrote:It takes about two weeks to lose your peak fitness but longer for the core. Again - get yourself sorted, lad. There are plenty more Parkruns if you're around and can fit one in as part of your rehab or summat.Gary the Enfield wrote: End of October's definitely out. Sorry guys.

Re: The athletics/running thread
No Park Run for me sadly. I have something, can't remember the name, but it begins with P. Its basically inflammation caused by my Achilles and bone rubbing against each other where the two meet. I also have fluid under my heels. Got to make a doctors appointment later in the week and get a referral to a podiatrist. The woman doing the scan seemed to think its caused by wearing flat soled shoes and trainers. Still, at least its given me an excuse to buy heels!

Re: The athletics/running thread
I'll be at the park run
I'll need to be after Saturday's fiasco. 1st XC of the season and knowing I was some way off fitness, I decided to use it as a steady run. Since I've been trying to shift a few pounds I've been laying off carbs for a while. Attempting a race at 2.30pm on just a bowl of corn flakes from 8am was a bit numb to be honest
and only confirmed by me being overtaken by gangs of pensioners as well as lapped by the eventual winner
