OK - from 5-live radio interview at half-time in the England match - Sunday afternoon, 12th October 2014:
(the context being that he has just been appointed!)
“I’m very excited and proud.
“The money side of things never really came up. My objective is to put right the results that have gone against us recently and get them playing a style of football that will please the Bolton fans."
“Its a great challenge. I left one great football club with a great history and have now joined another one. I spoke to chairman Phil Gartside on Wednesday and owner Eddie Davies on Saturday.
“They are great football people and are obviously hurting a bit at the moment but they have entrusted me on the football side of things and I’m looking forward to it.
“There was genuine interest from a club in Jeddah and it was appealing.
“They are in the South Asian League and Champions League, but my preference was England.
“But I really want to make the most of this chance."
"I've got a big job on my hands, but that's the challenge, I'm very excited about that.

I there any chance of some occasional moderatorial gardening in this thread to weed it back down to posts that have Lennon quotes in?

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Lennon's giving his first press conference at 16:00, so quotes ahoy.

Marc Iles: I'm here at the revamped Spie Media Suite at the Macron where even the press wi-fi password has been dedicated to the new manager!

1) such as, Marc. Such as.3:21pm
Marc Iles: Speaking with some of the Sky lads who were down at training this morning - they say young players like Rob Hall, Tom Eaves, Andy Kellett, Josh Vela, Oscar Threlkeld working with the first team, rather than development squad.
2) Suggests a sense of togetherness rather than 'know your place'iness. I like it.

That was a decent little interview on Sky Sports News. Lennon mentioned the players need "TLC and a bit of direction", which sums up the problems during Freedman's reign, so hopefully Lennon can sort all that out, get a good atmosphere within the squad and that has a knock on effect on the fans, which apparently will have a number of Celtic and Northern Irish fans amongst them. I'm positive about this managerial change and everything from Lennon so far has been good to hear.

Re: The Official Lennon Quote Bank
The separation of the first team from others ... including the youths supposefly breaking into the team ... is one of the things I'd heard but found difficult to believe. It was having terrible impacts on the youngsters confidence and affected team spirit throughout ... especially when no end of terribly average loan "stars" were swept in.
Hence the tale of Vela getting a mouthful and leaving training in tears two weeks ago.

Today's Press Conference here...
Re: The Official Lennon Quote Bank
He wants to sack the kitman.

What the hell is up with that reporters head at the bottom of the screen. If you look at around 4 minutes when he starts to become more animated by asking questions. His head looks about 2 foot long or has some massive quiff.Worthy4England wrote:Today's Press Conference here...

Re: The Official Lennon Quote Bank
BN: Hats off to Neil Lennon
BN: Lennon - I'm here to winThey don’t play football in woolly hats, so why should they train in them? When it gets cold I might allow some gloves but if they want to get warm, they’d better run around. You’d get four seasons in one day there [Celtic's training ground at Lennoxtown]. I want them to head the ball but you can’t do that with a hat on.
Once I find a tracksuit top that fits, I’ll be fine. The kit man’s the first to go.
I came from a great club with a great history at Celtic and I’ve walked into another one here. Everyone is hurting here. I just see Bolton now – my whole focus, my whole life – I will live, breathe and drink Bolton now. It may not go the way I want it to but I will give it a damn good try. I will do everything in my power to bring success to this football club. The players need to take on board what we’re saying to them but of course I want them to express themselves because they are very talented. They are just under-performing at the minute.
Plus some more non-verbatim quasi-quotes hereI’ve come here to win.
It might seem a brave decision on the outside but it’s the challenge I wanted. It’s a totally different concept from what I was doing at Celtic, where we were the dominant team in the league and you are winning week in, week out. I might have to change my methods. I don’t like losing, obviously, but I may have to accept that we will lose a few along the way.
I might have to bring a different skill-set and mentality to the table. I’ve watched footage and the team does need a bit of work. But the club and team is equipped to do a lot better and my job is to make sure that happens. We have a squad of players who know this division very well and have been successful in the division. We are not punching our weight at the minute and we need to be doing better.
We haven’t even touched on that [January window] just yet. The financial problems – if you want to call them that – aren’t really a major concern for me. If they were, I would have been made aware of that by now. We didn’t even talk about it. All we spoke about was the squad. If I want to bring someone in, I’m sure there will be funds available. I just want to assess what I’ve got first before I decide if I need to do anything else.
I can’t do that now [recruit players from Scotland] because you can’t do the cross-border thing but maybe in January who knows.
I spoke to Owen Coyle before I was even offered the job two weeks ago. Owen talked about his previous experiences with Bolton and he had nothing but positive things to say about the club. He loved it and said it was a fantastic club and he would go back in a heartbeat.

I do hope we're not taking that quote out of context....KeyserSoze wrote:Poor kitman
Out of interest, he is also reported by that liveblog as saying We need to start grinding out results and it's probably not a time for the youngsters yet but not in direct quotes. Oh, the confusing modern world.
