I do hope we're not taking that quote out of context....

Out of interest, he is also reported by that liveblog as saying We need to start grinding out results and it's probably not a time for the youngsters yet but not in direct quotes. Oh, the confusing modern world.
He did say the thing around not the right time for youngsters in the GMR interview.
He did indeed.

I don't expect the place to begin to look like a creche. Just some belief that they aren't all crappie and, given our lack of funds, need to start thinking about them more than we seem to have.

some snippets...

from http://hereisthecity.com/en-gb/2014/10/ ... at-celtic/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
(from an interview reported by Yahoo Eurosport - presumably his first press conference)

‘I had an interest in a few of the players during my time with Celtic,’ (Trotter, Mills, Beckford - see below)

‘I know their qualities - I would have bought a couple if I could have done the deals and brought them up north.

‘That wasn't to be, but I look at the dressing room and look at the quality and experience and players who have played and been successful at this level; there's no reason why we can't put a consistent run together.

‘Results first and then performances after, that's what I'm looking for really.

‘I watched Matt Mills for a while and Jermaine for a while. Young Trotter was on the radar when he was at Millwall and Ipswich as well.’

‘At the minute there looks like there's a lack of creativity within the squad, maybe that's something we'll look at going forward and a little bit of pace as well maybe in the final third,' he added. 'Those players are hard to find sometimes but we'll endeavour to do that.

‘I like Mark Davies as a player. I had a word with him and told him how important he was to the team, the squad and myself going forward. The sooner we get him back, the better we'll be as a team as well.’

again - probably lifted from the original press conference...

"I don't really know Jermaine as a person. What I do know is that over the piece he has got a good goalscoring record, he's a good athlete and his movement's very good. We need to get him firing.

"Max Clayton's come in now and is fit, I quite like the look of him. Joe Mason has got goals in him, Craig (Davies) is a target man, as it were, and he's got good goals in him.

"We need to find that recipe for getting the goals and getting the right service as well. And we need to work on the back four because we need to start keeping some clean sheets."

"I think they're capable of winning games and being consistent," he said.

"There's huge experience in that squad - Matt (Mills), Jermaine (Beckford), Neil Danns, Darren Pratley, Jay (Spearing)...Dean Moxey's played Premier League, Kevin (McNaughton) played for Cardiff for a long, long time at this level, (Adam) Bogdan is a superb goalkeeper, Andy Lonergan will push him all the way as well and then we've got Paddy Kenny so we've got three excellent goalkeepers which is a huge bonus because the big man, Bogdan, is injured at the moment.

"I think there's a wealth of experience there and I don't really know the reason why (they are bottom), and I don't want to dwell on it either.

"I would dearly love to hit the ground running but there's no guarantee of that; I don't know myself what the best team's going to be.

"I've got five players away at the minute that I'm not going to see until maybe Thursday, Friday - Tim Ream and the rest of the international players.

"It's still very, very early days. I need to find a formation that suits them, I need them to be comfortable as well."

Lennon's first 'in-depth' interview at BWFC. Clocking in at just under three minutes. Also includes a lot of slow-mos which just look daft.

[On Max Clayton] He’s fit now and I quite like the look of him. We need to find a recipe to start scoring more goals and that means getting the right service as well. There are some good strikers here. Over his career, Jermaine Beckford has a good scoring record, he’s a good athlete and his movement is very good. I have looked at him before. Joe Mason has definitely got goals in him and Craig Davies is a target man who can also get you a goal. There is a decent mix there.

The two most important facets of football are the supporters and the players. To get both onside - we'll try and do that as quickly as possible. Bolton is a hotbed of football. If we can get them onside there could be a tidal wave of supporting coming. They need a lift, the players need a lift, the people at board level who run the club and put so much in need a lift. That's my job, to try and do that.

The bar has to be raised. I want the team spirit better as well. There has been a malaise for whatever reason and we need to change that. They are demands but demands within the realms of their ability. I’m not going to start asking them to do things they can’t do. I’m not a bully or a dictator. I don’t think that’s the way you get the best out of players. You have to evolve and understand the culture of the dressing room. Once they get to know me better there should be no problem. They might need a little bit of TLC but I am not here to feel sorry for them. I’m here to get results. I came into Celtic at a difficult time and I changed it round there so I’m optimistic I can do the same at Bolton.

I’m fairly sure that the level of the Championship won’t be too dissimilar to the SPL. There may be a few teams who are a little bit better, Celtic certainly, but the variety is far better. You play four teams a season there and that’s why I wanted to change, I wanted the variety of tactics.
It’s more of a level playing field in the Championship, the results are more unpredictable. But what we haven’t done is to play to the potential that I think our fans and I know our board would expect.
I just want to find a consistency of performance. We’re not scoring enough goals and we’re conceding too many – that’s two big problems to sort out right there. What did surprise me when I came here is how big this club is. We need to match that on the field and get the fans going again.

I can’t guarantee that we'll go to Birmingham and wipe the floor with them. But it would be good to try and get the result. If we can give a decent performance, then so be it. What I'm looking for is a performance of some sort that gives me encouragement going forward. I know at the minute that results and performances haven't been what they should have been. I have made it abundantly clear to the players what I expect from them moving forward and I'm sure they'll join me on that.

I think they're capable of winning games and being consistent. Thinking it and doing it are a different thing. There's huge experience in that squad - Matt (Mills), Jermaine (Beckford), Neil Danns, Darren Pratley, Jay (Spearing), Dean Moxey's played Premier League, Kevin (McNaughton) has played for Cardiff for a long, long time at this level.
Bogdan is a superb goalkeeper, Andy Lonergan will push him all the way as well and then we've got Paddy Kenny so we've got three excellent goalkeepers which is a huge bonus because the big man, Bogdan, is injured at the moment.
I think there's a wealth of experience there and I don't really know the reason why things haven’t gone well, and I don't want to dwell on it either. I think Dougie (Freedman) will be a successful manager, there are times when it doesn't work for you but I think he'll come again and I hope he does because he's an excellent manager and a good guy as well. But we're looking forward now.

Having those [international] players away [earlier this week] makes life a little tougher. I don’t know at this point what my best side is going to be. I need to find a formation that suits them because I need the players to feel comfortable. Then it will be much easier to get results.

We've had the likes of Tom Eaves, Conor Wilkinson, Josh Vela, Oscar Threlkeld and Zach Clough up with us. And it's difficult for us in the first four or five days to make an overall impression. But Vela has done very well, he is in the squad and he might start. He is definitely one that has caught our eye. He has got aggression about him but he can pass the ball. He looks a decent player and is definitely in the squad.

{Why stay in a hotel the night before a game?}
I know where they are, I know they are being well rested before the game, I know they are getting the right food, I also know they are not travelling in from here, there and everywhere, wherever they live, the morning or afternoon of the game. Anything can happen – they could be caught in traffic, there could be an accident on the road. So we travel together, we eat together and we liaise together. It also means we can do the analysis of the games the night before as well and it’s fresh in the mind, although we don’t overcomplicate that either. It’s just a thing we did previously and I wanted to bring that into what we do here.

I don’t think I need to make changes at the moment. I have tried to be more subtle rather than radical. Everyone is on an even footing again. Until I can assess what their strengths and weaknesses are I will reserve judgement. With the captaincy it’s Jay’s until things change but it’s not my main concern at the minute. He has been the captain and he’ll carry on in that position for now.
{On the goodwill from fans}
You can take that two ways; it’s a good thing or it can put extra pressure on the game tomorrow. I don’t want that pressure to the players, that’s my job. I’ll take that on. It was very quiet on the Monday, as expected I’m sure there are people wary of me and a bit of apprehension of the way I was going to be. We just try to make the training ground a place that players look forward to coming into, that’s important.
{On good-luck messages from within the game}
It has been fantastic. I didn’t realise I had that many friends to tell you the truth.

{On Kris Commons speculation}
Kris Commons scored 32 goals for me last season. Of course I would be interested in him if it was at the right price. But would Kris Commons want to come here? I have never had that conversation. I would be pretty certain Celtic would be unwilling to let him go. A month ago he was in talks with the club about extending his contract. I don't know, it is speculation.

those comments about the captaincy could sound vaguely threatening if Spearing was slightly insecure! :-)

MARK Davies has been challenged to prove he can fire Wanderers back up the Championship table.

Fit again after a bruised knee, the mercurial midfielder returned to action from the bench in Tuesday's 2-1 defeat at Charlton.

Neil Lennon is debating whether to launch him from the start against Brentford tomorrow but admits he needs to get more out of the 26-year-old playmaker if he is to fulfil his full potential.

Davies remains a popular figure on the terraces but has started just four of Wanderers' 16 games this season.

Now the new Whites boss, speaking ahead of his first home game in charge, has laid down the gauntlet to his flair players to take charge and lead the club out of the bottom three.

"It is good to have Mark back and I haven’t seen much of him on the pitch, obviously, but I was quite pleased with what I saw against Charlton," he told The Bolton News.

“But now he’s got to come to the party and make a difference. They all have.

"It is the same with Chung-Yong Lee. He is a very good player but there has to be an end product to all that good approach play.
About time somebody told chungy to find an end product!

Well, frankly, the entire squad, and especially those who primary job it is to create and finish chances.

In the last six games, we've had this week's two goals from defenders and a deflected distance-job against Bournemouth from defensive midfielder Spearing. In this season's 13 games we've had just 5 goals from our strikers and "creatives" - 3 of those 5 coming in Mason's hat-trick against Rotherham. (The others: Mason v Forest and Cravies' pen v Boro.)

Put another way, the front half of the team have done their job - get goals - in only one of the last 10 games.

On the bright side, though, a lot of those were under the previous manager. In Lennon's two games we have shown a commendable commitment to creation and attacking intent. I also like his quote after Charlton about not having had much time to work on attacking yet, so let's hope there's more to come, especially if confidence starts to return as the chances do. At least now we're creating and missing chances - there are worse things, as we discovered earlier this season.

Quoted by Mr Isles in the BEN today : "
“I watched some away games before I took over and we never laid a glove on teams so it was important to get a little bit more of a physical aspect – within the laws of the game obviously – to the way we played.”

Brilliant. I love that he wants that energy and ... well ... actual tackles. I suspect we may get more bookings, some sending offs - though we got enough of those under the table-tennis man - but if this is the way then I'm happy.
