Britain has been told it must pay an extra €2.1bn (£1.7bn) into the European Union budget by the end of next month because the UK economy is doing better relative to other European economies. http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/o ... ntribution" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If you are being successful, you must pay into the EU funds to get Ukraine.
“Having come to Britain to set fire to David Cameron’s migration ideas, José Manuel Barroso [European commission president] has returned to Brussels to pour more fuel on the flames,” he told the Guardian.

“This is the EU making clear that economic success is not to be applauded but to be punished. Mr Cameron has to veto this if he is to have any credibility at all.”
Nick de Bois, a senior member of the Tory 1922 backbenchers’ committee, said: “Only the EU would demand more money when everyone is belt-tightening. Only the EU would want to penalise growing economies to subsidise those that have not made the tough decisions. There is only one answer to such a ludicrous demand – no.”

I take it that the belt-tightening Nick de Bois will not be accepting his 12% wage increase then?

It's hard to defend this and it couldn't have come at a worse time for Cameron. Just as he's bigging himself up as the tough guy about to stand up to them nasty Europeans and they spring this on him.

Conversely, it couldn't have come at a better time for Farage and his collection of clowns, loonies and closet racists.

Sorry Bobo, no offence!

I understand that, I'd just like to learn is take on it. Farridge has just been on and as Bob attests this is playing right into his hands.

Wasn't that qualified with 'on Dec 1st'. Are we being penalised for not being daft enough to be dragged down by a single currency?

It seems to have mostly slipped the public debate (rather surprisingly) but it seems we compiled the figures ourselves, and knew the consequences.

Not slipped by me. I can just imagine the conversation.

More ammo for the cause soon, don't need to campaign let the EU do it for us.

The ONS and George seem to agree a lot :wink:

Unrelated but heard talk about this on the radio earlier. Thought it was interesting with all the hysteria that seems to be flying around. I'm not holding my breath on it being on the front of a newspaper any time soon...
