Re: General Chit Chat
Having had great service out of my Nikon D90 for the last 7 years, I've finally got fed up of carrying round a large lump of a camera and I'm looking at one of the advanced compacts. I know Clappers loves his Canon G16. Any advice from anyone around the best bit of kit for around 500 sovs? I'm looking at a Ricoh GR1......I think.

My old Canon G3 was very very good. Not sure what the latest incarnation is, but I don't think you'd go far wrong with one.

We had a really nice time in Bruges, although I feel like I've just come back from a weekend in Benidorm with the lads rather than a civilised city break with the Mrs!
Didn't really do much other than taste beer. Pubs are hard to come by, most places are more like restaurants but favourite places were The Brugs Beertje with over 300 to choose from, the 18th century De Garre pub hidden down a ginnel off Breidelstraat; and La Trappiste with it low vaulted brickwork arch ceiling. All amazing.
We dined one night at De Vlaamsche Pot which looks fantastic but we were probably a bit too tanked to appreciate it! But apart from that we grabbed snacks from the christmas market stalls between pubs.
We also did the Haalve Mann brewery tour which we didn't really rate.
Beautiful place, smart digs, incredible beer, bang on! Could be an annual thing now...

A bit late but it finally cropped up in the Nationals.
Really, really don't know what some folk expect, blowing wads on turkey and presents and booze or a roof over their heads!

Taken fro a piece in the Guardian about the legacy of the tsunami
It does make you wonder about the lasting effects of benefits on society.Next to Nelly’s bakery, the people of Nusa say that one of the biggest changes post-tsunami is the negative impact the flows of aid money have had on social values. Cash for work programs intended to incentivise people to clean up the land post-disaster have created a lasting sense of entitlement that has proven difficult to reverse. “Suddenly everyone was given all this money,” says Muhammad Yasin of the problem, “and then they didn’t want to work any more.”

My garden is covered in half-an-inch of pure white snow right now. Just thought I'd mention it.

Been reading up on military aircraft and just seen Stalin's response to slow production
Good job he ain't in charge over here for some of our council workers

You have let down our country and our Red Army. You have the nerve not to manufacture IL-2s until now. Our Red Army now needs IL-2 aircraft like the air it breathes, like the bread it eats. Shenkman produces one IL-2 a day and Tretyakov builds one or two MiG-3s daily. It is a mockery of our country and the Red Army. I ask you not to try the government's patience, and demand that you manufacture more ILs. This is my final warning.

How'd you finish up? One of our local papers a day or so ago had a few column inches which included a photo' of Liverpool airport. It looked like there might have been a foot or so of snow in the uncleared areas.TANGODANCER wrote:My garden is covered in half-an-inch of pure white snow right now. Just thought I'd mention it.

Oddly enough, it poured with rain on Christmas Eve and we had one of our very few green Christmases - all the snow was washed away or melted.Dujon wrote:How'd you finish up? Not seen any snow yet on the coast, in fact today was clear, sunny and gorgeous on the prom.

Re: General Chit Chat
No more snow Dujon. It just froze overnight and the ice is still around ( I've got bruises and sore ribs to prove it) although the temps moved off freezing now. Had fog today but the forecast says slightly warmer. Hope so. Snow's fine on Christmas cards.Dujon wrote:How'd you finish up? So he (quite clearly) didn't have a gun, but was shot and the person who shot him, isn't facing any charges?
They should both go to prison
