Huddersfield Town v BWFC, 28th Dec match thread
No nonsense thread title for our trip to the John Smith's Stadium.
I know we have a game Boxing Day but as this is close too thought it worth making one.
Be a toughie this. We only played them a month ago and a close encounter it seemed. Maybe the last time we will see chungy in a while too.
Who's going? I'm going. Via the ale train with my bolton fan uncle, several Everton fans and a DMB for some reason. Will be steamers come kick off, I wager.

Nero fiddles while Gordon Burns.

I'm going. Apparently we've sold around 3,100 of our allocated tickets. Should be a cracker.

That's more of a confession than it is a statement!KeyserSoze wrote:No nonsense thread title for our trip to the John Smith's Stadium.
It's like a band "Getting back to basics on our new album".

They don't get much better than these ones. Blackburn at home and Hudds away, the fixture list has spoiled us.officer_dibble wrote:In. Love christmas games.

Also going. Giving the Ale Trail a miss although I'm staying over with a mate who lives in Slaithwaite (pronounced Slowett locally apparently) which is one of the stops. He's a pie-eating Wiganer but seems to like coming to watch us. I like Huddersfield as a club, friendly Yorkshire antidote to Dirty Leeds, but obviously hope we beat them again. They are a decent side though, so I think it will be close. Having a refreshed Cravies back should help.

There's a place near me named Trottiscliffe, the locals pronounce it Trosley, pretentious pricks.
If you're missing out on the ale, my heart goes out to you. What's it all about if not the ale?

Oh I won't be missing out on the Ale, just not doing the train thing. Thank you for your kind words though.Enoch wrote:There's a place near me named Trottiscliffe, the locals pronounce it Trosley, pretentious pricks.

We'll be meeting some Huddersfield fans pre game plus the guy I'm staying with has a 3 week old baby so will need something to help me sleep!

This is a fair summation of my own thoughts.LeverEnd wrote:Also going. We beat them last year and got a 2-2 draw the year before, so there's no reason we can't go there on Sunday and beat them.

Re: Huddersfield Town v BWFC, 28th Dec match thread
Dunno whether I'd say I "like" Huddersfield, or that they're "friendly" - I've spilt blood on those streets after an unprovoked attack. Still, I've always thought that they're a fairly similar club to us, even predating the McAlpine/Reebok similarities - Leeds Road was similar to Burnden (big paddock opposite main stand, open embankment for visitors, smaller but vocal other end). Clubs who were big in the distant past, tumbled down the divisions and tried to claw their way back up.
One of my favourite photos is a Homes of Football shot of Leeds Road in the gloaming - there's a version of it top right at http://homesoffootball.co.uk/gallery/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; but there's another, taken slightly later as the damp dusk gathers in off the Pennines, the fans huddled in hope under the beacon floodlights.

Home v Basingstoke Town for me, any Basingstoke fans want a pint I'll be in the bar.LeverEnd wrote:Oh I won't be missing out on the Ale, just not doing the train thing. Re: Huddersfield Town v BWFC, 28th Dec match thread
Well these experiences would colour your view I'm sure DSB, mine is mainly down to having a mate who supports them and enjoying the atmosphere away there with no trouble. I do relate to them as well due to the similarities you rightly point out between our clubs.
I did go to Leeds Rd but can't picture it any longer. I do remember Phil Brown being led a merry dance by Iffy Onoura, and Iwan Roberts scoring the only goal via an assist from the ref, so not all happy!

I was once at the front of the crowd trying to get out of Leeds Road, when the police blocked our exit with a row of horses. Some helpful chaps started to push from the back, forcing us all forwards. I emerged behind the blockade, with a trail of green horse snot running down my arm. Enjoy your breakfasts!

Re: Huddersfield Town v BWFC, 28th Dec match thread
Yesterday was a red-rose battle, and as the last Dingle hay-cart rolls silently off towards Blackburn, with not even the plink-plonk of a banjo to accompany the isolated sobs of the Jack Walker faithful, we look ahead to another roses battle of opposing colours on the morrow. Huddersfield will be well up for revenge of our recent single goal win and on their own midden. Can we achieve the "nine without defeat" target?
Good news is Craig Davies is fit again and with our new-found strike force, can Emil make it "Some Enchanted Evening" ???
