If we do, dreams of ambition and promotion are just smoke talk. We might manage January without him but unless we get a play-maker of quality we're not likely to go far.freeindeed wrote:All the action will take place late in the window when we've sold Chungy...

It seems clear he isn't going to sign a new contract and then Lenny mentioned his name in the same breath as stating we need to sell players to buy players. They will try and shift him for a couple of milllion and replace him with 2 or 3 of 'Lenny's guys' ala Commons. We definitely won't find like for like, but if say Commons came in and scored a goal every other game as he has for Celtic it won't be a disaster.

I'd be trying everything to get Chungy to stay, and pointing our his miraculous upturn in form came at the same time Lennon came in and that he's the main man here. But if it didn't work then given the play-offs is little more than a pipe-dream we have to look at next year and if selling him meant that we'd have Commons and a Lennon-chosen striker (and winger if I'm not being greedy) for next year then I spose the money-men win.

indeed... if he's not going to sign a new contract - then we need to make some dosh from selling him... It's all very well saying we have to keep him - but my guess is that if he went on a free, there'd be some (perhaps some of the same people - who knows!) bashing Garty and co. for bad management of assets... you can have your cake OR you can eat it, not both... (though - having said that - I still have over half my body-weight in christmas cake to get through!)Prufrock wrote:I'd be trying everything to get Chungy to stay, and pointing our his miraculous upturn in form came at the same time Lennon came in and that he's the main man here. I think that's a good shout but I suppose Pulis will want a proper look at him firstVertigo wrote:Should we be looking at someone like Samaras on loan from West Brom? He's not getting game time and he has Lennon connections. Or is that too Dougie/Palace for you lot.

from Lion of Vienna -
It has been rumoured tonight that Bolton Wanderers boss Neil Lennon has dispensed with the services of the club's entire scouting network.
Brought together by former manager Dougie Freedman in 2013, the members of staff who have left the club include Head of Analytical Development Brian Prestidge, Chief Scout David Sclanders, U21 Technical Scout Lee Sargeson and staff member Jay Blake. It is not known at this moment whether this mass redundancy campaign includes other members of the backroom staff.
The somewhat scattergun approach of Freedman that basically involved the loaning in of various wastrels and never-will-be types that saw the likes of Owen Garvan, Chris Herd and Steve de Ridder arrive at the Reebok has obviously not sat well with Lennon who has spoken lately of his desire to improve the quality at his disposal as he attempts to fire the Whites up the division.

Oooohhhhh, this will be interesting to follow.

Just done a bit of research and they've been shipped out from when Lennon took over (Sclanders went in November when Lennon took over, Sargeson went at the beginning of December and Prestidge went on 28th December)
TBF Freedman's later policy on scouting players/transfers was pretty poor

SSN reporting that officially Powell has had his loan from Leicester cut short. Could he be on his way to Wanderers?
Also Glen Murray has returned back to his parent club, worth a punt if we could afford his wages. Although I think his missus said that she wasn't happy with a move North

Based on how Lennon been "bigging up" LCY over the past month as someone who could play in any team in the country (which is true actually), it seems like we were marketing for a January sale. How I see it is that the hope is he sets the Asian Cup alight and we are able to get a couple million for him through an auction since his contract ends in the summer.
From his sale, and that of Medo, Spearing and Bogdan, lets get in a good striker, winger and attcking Midfielder in January and make a push for the playoffs.

Interesting (although I'm not sure Prestidge was really part of the scouting team as much as analysing our own players' performances). As usual with Lennon I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and hope that his new team come up with the goods.

Chungy is worth more to us than what we could get for him. With him in the team, we have an outside chance of promotion this season, and if not this year, definitely next year with Davies back. A player like him can be the difference between promotion and missing out, which is massive financially. He is worth far more to us than he is to other teams. I wouldn't be happy taking something like £7m for him but who is going to pay that?
I don't see him moving for this reason and I hope not too.

what do we reckon to Danny Ward nowadays? Time was - he was one that got away...
seems he's a potential loan-target for Leeds... if he's available to them - why not us??

That article is a few days old. Quite apart from the fact Sclanders went ages ago and I think he was the only Freedman appointment in the cull, I thought it a pretty poor piece.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Interesting (although I'm not sure Prestidge was really part of the scouting team as much as analysing our own players' performances). I hope no one made cash out of that.
Re: Bijou Bob's Bargain Basement Buys - Jan transfer thread
He's out of contract in the summer so by the end of Jan the club will know realistically if he's staying (having signed a new contract) or not. If there was a proper chance of us going up this year I'd get the logic of saying "f*ck it, keep him anyway" but there's not. So it's what leaves us better off for a tilt next year, for me.SmokinFrazier wrote:Chungy is worth more to us than what we could get for him. Wasn't the reason we put up with abysmal results under Dougie his outstanding (yet conveniently unquantifiable) work behind the scenes? And now most of that has been ripped up?
As for Chungy, I don't see who's spending big money on him and so it's irrelevant. We lose his wages in January or at the end of the season.
