The guy is a legend though. His autobiography is real old school and well worth a read. Him driving home after a few brown ales and his incredulity when he was over taken in a race by a bloke in glasses

There speaks a man that's clearly never been overtaken by a pram-pushing mum then?!Harry Genshaw wrote:Bruce Rioja wrote:Yeah well I want a word with him about my bright yellow Ron Hill jacket that condensates inside when I run in it!Gary the Enfield wrote:TANGODANCER wrote:Thought this might interest the runners:

Cheers TD. Nice read Ron Hill is definitely at Legend status for me.I felt the same about his under shorts/cycling shorts with the seam in a particularly uncomfortable position. Any further than a couple of miles and it felt like someone hacking at your ball bag with a rusty nail.

One step forward one step back.
Taking a week off running after getting pain in the ligaments above the knee.
Frustrating.

Have to ask, mate, but are you not rushing things a little? That was a very aggressive target that you set yourself last week.Gary the Enfield wrote:One step forward one step back.![]()

Possibly. Currently re-evaluating targets.

Managed a 10k this eve in the blustering wind. 49 minutes or so.

If you fail to prepare, prepare to fail. Is that an Aphorism?Lost Leopard Spot wrote:registration for my marathon on 31st and I've still not run a yard yet in preparation... Oops.

Ah, but the wind was behind him.

At my best I did 43 minutes for a 10k so 49 in those conditions is not too shabby.

Feeling smug. Got home from being away at 20:30 with plans to do nothing more than sink in front of the tele with a G & T. Thowt 'feck it' and went for a 5K run instead.

Very true, guilt-tripping oneself can be a great motivational tool. Unfortunately I've become the athetics equivalent of a sociopath and can't even be arsed feeling guilty!

You too eh? I'd love to be back racing but can't be arsed to put the work in to get race fit. I'll probably be forced back by my clothes no longer fittingLeverEnd wrote:Very true, guilt-tripping oneself can be a great motivational tool. Ha! I'm still turning up to parkrun, but for social reasons. Something will motivate me at some point and I'll start training then get injured and stop again. Get your arse down to parkrun for a breakfast if no other reason.Harry Genshaw wrote:You too eh? I'd love to be back racing but can't be arsed to put the work in to get race fit.
